Before You take Tp smite top

Help me understand the concept so this doesn't happen to me

  1. Starting item 1039: Why?, it gives no benefits in lane.
  2. Taking it on random champions: I've seen a Zac and Darius try it and they just both fed hard.
  3. Watch people get the wrong smite upgrade item 3713 or item 3706, isn't the point to melt tanks?
  4. Getting item 3717 But then going full Damage rather than building another hp item
  5. If the point of item 3717 is to melt enemies then why take it on a champion that doesn't auto attack Malphite Maokai etc...
  6. Why Do you play forward if you got no summoner 4 so easy to gank early

You don't start with Machete. If they do, they're doing it wrong. I play top smite with Cho and Mundo currently. For both, I start with item 1028 . This gives more sustain in lane, and it builds into cinderhulk. I don't buy the machete by itself ever. I wait until I have the money (both Mundo and Cho have great sustain) to get item 3715 .

From there, I go straight tank. I'm sure to get Warmogs to get the most out of Cinderhulk.

Both Cho and Mundo can farm safely under tower until they have good tankiness (especially Mundo now that his Q refunds full health cost on kill).

If the point of is to melt enemies then why take it on a champion that doesn't auto attack

item 3715 only needs you to auto attack three times as of 5.9 to ensure maximum damage. Once as the target is smited, once before the three second damage over time expires but after it has ticked for one second, and one final auto just before the debuff expires at 4 seconds.

And if you are not weaving autos in with Maoki to proc his passive then you are bad with him.

The other points are valid, though for number 6 that is why it is suppose to be taken on champions with a speed boost and a dash like Shyvana and Hecarim .

People took item 3715 because it was basically a 6 second semi-Exhaust.

Don't do that. Just... don't. Start ruby crystal to build into Bamis or dorans blade/shield.

I've seen it work pretty well on those two. It gives a both advantages as well as disadvantages and it lets you invade and pressure the enemy jungle. It's more of a strategic choice than a way to win lane.

Chilling is okay if you're super slow like Darius actually. Challenging is better for winning duels and 'exhausting' the burst damage from assassins and mages.

It also functions as an exhaust. It basically makes you auto win trades in lane and it forces people to retreat in an all in because they do so little damage.

Idk. Do they have wards? Some people are dumb or bad at laning or just have no map awareness.
