Garen rework thoughts and opinions

His overall kit nerf to accommodate a semi-useless ult interaction isn't worth losing all your E dmg because it splits between enemies hit. Garen is already so easy to kite and the opponents being able to see who the villain is makes it all that much easier to peel Garen away from any meaningful teamfight interactions. His current Q is ok though nerfing the only thing he had going for him which was his silence duration is kind of awkward. The new W makes it so his early game is slightly stronger by giving you "free" armor and magic resist if you CS properly but hurts his late game since it no longer scales with your overall armor and MR which is ok but the removal of Tenacity on it makes the problems he has in team fights even more apparent with being stunned, slowed, rooted or silenced. As a bruiser that has to get close to even achieve anything it is almost impossible to team fight now without flash being off cool down to dive the enemy team and if that isn't the case then you're stuck on peel duty trying to harm the divers/tanks to no avail because of his poor E scaling. His new E though interesting turns out to be his downfall. The scaling on it isn't that great and is only worth a damn if you catch someone on their own. Making it deal less damage the more enemies are caught in it was 100% not necessary. Now his laning phase boils down to either quietly sitting around and CSing to build up your W or getting bullied out of lane by someone smart enough to sit in his minions as soon as you pop your E. With these changes his itemization has become incredibly limited due to his early-mid and late game being gimped beyond reason. His new R and interactions with the villain are not enough to make him a viable pick. 1. The enemy can see who the villain is hence they can act accordingly. 2. Usually the villains are the champs that snowball i.e the mid laner, the adc or in some cases the jungler if they are in the assassin category. This brings up the issue where those roles don't necessarily build any kind of HP or defensive items other than maybe GA or banshee in some cases so why would you need true damage to deal with them anyways? The overall gimping of his identity just to cater to this semi-pointless ult interaction make Garen no longer a lane bully or a force to be reckoned with but only a slight nuisance that will need to be peeled off quite easily because of his lack of any meaningful gap closer. In my opinion more changes will need to be made to have Garen be a unique champion that won't just be useless and kite able in the long run. What do you guys think? How could he be made better without breaking the game?

To me they basically put Garen on this fragile thin line, that if they nerf or buff him it will be to much or too little. The only issue I have is the Q silence nerf, everything else feels fine. In all honesty even the old W felt useless, but I wish this new one was like every other stacker (in which it has infinite stacks), by making it 30 its easy to get it in the mid game. His E is better because in teamfights you can do crazy damage if your in a 2v1 or with your team, but Garen is still Garen so people cant get cocky and try to 1v4.

Riven and Garen are the same in which if people think "wow Im fed" they can 1v5 a whole team. Garen has issues with adcs that have slows and CC.

If the enemy team didnt know who the villian was it was be game breaking, because they would just see garen doing crazy damage and not know why. It like if you can place stacks on someone without them being able to see the stack.

It would be nice if max rank W had an increase to max stacks to scale into the late game though and if it had its tenacity back.

But that's the thing with his ult interaction. It has such a good impact but its negated by the fact that the person who is the villain can be cradled like a baby by their whole team rendering the interaction kind of useless.

Its a tough mechanic, because yes, they know who to protect in team battles, but Ive noticed that it only hurts in games where the enemy team has a lot of cc. Still people would be demanding nerfs if they didnt know who ws the villians, just thinking it is his crazy new stuff.

To me it undermines the whole purpose since because they get this visual queue it just turns Garen which is already highly kite able into more of a joke since now they know who to peel for. Even if the indicator was not there they would still be able to assume who the prime target is considering they could look at the scoreboard and determine who got the last kill but that would imply that players would have to pay attention. It just feels that in his current state he doesn't really belong since there are far better top lanes that fit most comps which is unfortunate because if there's one thing that the old Garen could do is at least win his lane, which to me, no longer seems to be the case against any player that stands in his minion wave to negate your E almost completely.
