Ideas for 2 new elemental drakes!

Zoeee··37 votes·3,918 views

So, after hearing that riot intends to add a new elemental drake, i came up with 2 ideas, which probably already have been thought about, but imma still give it a go!

Since we're talking about ELEMENTAL drakes, i took inspiration by Avatar: TLA and LoK

So heres the elements:

Metal Drake - A dragon who upon being killed, gives the team bonus maximum % hp ( for example 5/10/15 % bonus maximum hp ) Edit: It could also give the team Tenacity to make the team feel heavier ( as said by Timethief49 ) It would make it so tanks also benefits tanks in a way, that isnt just regeneration ( ocean drake )

Lava Drake - A dragon who upon being killed, gives the team on-hit DoT damage ( think teemo E, but only the DoT and not the on-hit impact damage ) I have 2 different damage effects for this buff.

Either it being a "burst" DoT, like 30/65/100 dmg in 3 seconds ( JUST EXAMPLE NOW, I really dont know what i should have as damage values ) Or it being a "long" DoT, like 50/100/150 over 8 seconds or like 10 seconds, idk ( since 10 seconds could also cancel recalls, which could be too OP )

If anyone of you guys have other ideas, please type them on this board, and lets see if riot takes any of our ideas!

And please upvote so more people can see!

Edit 2018-03-01 23:32

After reading alot of your comments, i thought of making a list, that will be updated as this thread go on, so make sure to add your ideas to this board!

Metal Drake - % HP buff or Tenacity Lava Drake - Basically nerfed Elder Drake Ice Drake - MR / Armor OR giving an effect like mana flow band Void Drake - Higher CD Reduction % Cap Or just CDR Mist Drake - Buffing Vision for champions ??? - Reduced Recall Time Bread Drake - ?!??!?!?!?! ( Pantheon, Have you been drinking? )

Edit 2018-03-02 02:20

  • Added Metal Drake 2.0
  • Added Lightning Drake

New List:

Metal Drake - % HP buff or Tenacity Lava Drake - Basically nerfed Elder Drake Ice Drake - MR / Armor OR giving an effect like mana flow band Void Drake - Higher CD Reduction % Cap Or just CDR Mist Drake - Buffing Vision for champions ??? - Reduced Recall Time Bread Drake - ?!??!?!?!?! ( Pantheon, Have you been drinking? ) Metal Drake 2.0 - Shield, kind of like rakan passive ( SHIELD BATTERY ) Lightning Drake - Attack Speed

I´d make metal drake give tenacity. Or reduce knockups. Like making the champs heavyer.

I feel like a cool drake that could be added could be a ice drake. When it attacks you, it lowers attack speed by 10 percent. When killed, team bonus is increased mr/armor

That is a really cool idea! but what about mr/armor being changed to slowing basic attacks?

DorkunedAuras17 votes

permanent slowing basic attacks is absolutely insane.

Yeah, but not if it only was like, a small slow, think 5/10/15 % or something idk

these are just ideas tho ;)

eh, I still think that's kinda broken. It's also something that would get immediately invalidated by Frozen Mallet or similar items. Since slows don't stack, there are champs that wouldn't even benefit from that drake. Cool idea, but I wouldn't want it in the game as a permanent feature.

Yeah thats true, well, scrap that idea then ;)

Resistances could be great. Other things that fit with the Ice theme are Slow Resistance, Mana, CDR (non-standard and kept low), an Ice-shell sort of effect (like Malph or Sejuani), or a Manaflow Band sort of effect (see Lissandra and Nunu).

The problem with adding more drakes is that the game becomes more rng-based and these dragons specifically can favor some teams way more than others.

So how would the metal drake look like?

would be cool if it was made with Hextech

Part of the purpose of the elemental drakes was to help either team.

Cloud: allows you to rotate faster to defend or to attack Ocean: gives health/mana regen which helps with offensive and defensive siege situations Internal: can make up for stat discrepancies when behind or snowball damage when ahead

Mountain doesn't really fit in with that philosophy, considering it doesn't help you against a siege or neutral objective contest. Grabbing this buff while behind simply denies the other team the buff rather than helping you in some meaningful way.

Cloud: Map pressure Ocean: Siege Infernal: Team fight (offensive)

What other buffs even could fit into the formula?

Your metal drake would be a defensive version of the infernal drake which definitely fits the design philosophy -- helping a team that is behind survive despite the stat deficit and helping a team ahead snowball.

I would argue that the lava drake has too much overlap with the elder dragon buff and doesn't really bring anything new to the table (as well as a long-duration DoT making Liandry's a nightmare to deal with).

How about a vision buff?

1.) Each dragon increases your champion vision radius by x/y/z. Elder dragon increases that amount by 50%. 2.) Each dragon increases your ward vision radius by x/y/z. Elder dragon increases that amount by 50%. 3.) Each dragon grants a true-sight vision radius 100/150/200. Elder dragon increases that amount to 150/225/300.

Each are useful when ahead and when behind. The first and second don't affect combat abilities, yet can have a drastic impact on combat. The third is a very powerful buff, so probably should be even weaker than what's written here.

This would make my preferred final roster to be: Cloud: Map pressure Ocean: Siege Infernal: Team fight (offensive) Mountain: Objective pressure Metal: Team fight (defensive) Mist: Ward Vision

With 6 dragons, there is a 1:6 chance per spawn for each buff. There are a maximum of 5 dragons which can spawn before Elder, giving a 1:30 chance for any particular set of dragons spawning (down from 1:20). This should make it even more rare to get 3-of-a-kind for any given game.

The other thing to take into account is the combat with the dragon. Crafting a unique engagement for two new dragons will be difficult. The infernal and mountain dragons already share similar combat design.

Making the metal dragon simply have higher resistance doesn't seem novel. Perhaps having the metal dragon inflict grievous wounds to those attacking it with basic attacks? It would change the nature of the engagement around the dragon and make it very difficult to solo.

How about near-sight for the mist dragon? Have it shoot targeted Graves' Smokescreens that stick around for a few seconds.

Cloud: High attack speed and movement speed Ocean: On-hit slow Infernal: Splash damage Mountain: Splash damage, high resistance Metal: Thornmail Mist: Near-sight

I disagree about Earth. Since it helps you take objectives better, and the game is decided by ones ability to take objectives, it helps whetjer you are behind or ahead. The winning team gets to push their advantage by taking more objectives to close out the game.

No thanks. Not because I don't like your idea, but because adding more dragons dilutes the pool, making games even less consistent.

First I ll say whats wrong with current drake setup. Hm I ll use rating based on me being high elo and like what 5k + game (probably more) experience since elemental drakes came out

  • Elder and Elderly drake
  • no complaints, I had some complaints but they fixed those
  • Infernal Drake
  • way to impactful. I rate its impact the highest so 10/10
  • Makes melee champions unplayable I would like reversed infernal drake because of this.
  • The most impactful drake is also the easiest to solo ROFL
  • Ocean Drake
  • Its impact is where it should be. Around 7/10
  • Slightly strong early game but that is not a concern
  • This is extremly toxic against Poke champions to a point where I stopped playing them due to an off chance the enemy team gets it. This is easly fixable tho,
  • Bassicly Poke champions need anti Ocean drake item.. Something like do 50 damage 5 seconds after you deal damage to enemy champion Would do..
  • The above Item would stop ocean drake from kicking in so early after Poke which is where the issue lies. Item stats shouldnt be to irelevant
  • Air Drake
  • Its impact is where it should be . Around 7/10
  • This is the fairest and most balanced drake. For those who disagree. READ THE FKING PATCH NOTES so many missed Air buffs while back

Note there is also 0 bias here. I dont main juggernauts at all. Infact most champions I main are already hypermobile. I benefit the least from this drake due to champion Pool yet I find it the healthiest

  • Mountain drake
  • Oh shit Where do I begin. 3/10
  • I despise this drake from within my hearth core. This drake IS THE BIGGEST NOOB BAIT THERE FKING IS
  • Spend 30 seconds and vision early game so that you can take another smite coinflipy objective 2 seconds faster SURE
  • Take 3 mountain drakes only to have your team take 0 towers. SUREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Here are the issues with Mountain drake.

  1. It does nothing when you are behind unlike other drakes. Inf - obvious, ocean makes sure you are full before fight, Air gives you supperior engage makes you harder to pick off that is important in teamfights.

  2. All other drakes already help with siege. More speed from air already helps with rotations and siege. More damage from INF already speeds up your tower and objective taking, Ocean drake makes sure that you are full, negates poke, makes sure you can stay outside of fountain for longer which increases Tempo

  3. Mountain drake is the tankiest drake. You have to spend so much time on this drake in early risking potentional dragon steal only to what? Gain 2 seconds faster Baron, potentional baron rush if the enemy team is dumb.

HIGH ELO TIP. IGNORE THIS DRAKE LIKE A PLAGUE

Yes you can potentionaly trade your own tower to take the enemy tower 2 seconds faster but this is not really relevant. This drake is horrible for soloq even for the top 200 players.

As far as your drakes go

New List:

Metal Drake - % HP buff or Tenacity

Tenacity HAHAHAHAH Dont make me laught. %hp buff is not universal some champions also scale off HP. Bad suggestion

Lava Drake - Basically nerfed Elder Drake Bassicly dot infernal drake? Uh no. it ll be opressive to melee champs just like inf. Also brand

Ice Drake - MR / Armor OR giving an effect like mana flow band Multiple issues here:

  • Mr and armor buff is not universal. You should have suggested % dmg reduction gain. Then I would sign replacing this with infernal any day
  • Some champions scale of mr and armor like ornn, carries would benefit the most since armor and mr gain at low ammounts is the best
  • Ocean is already a mana flow band essentially

Void Drake - Higher CD Reduction % Cap Or just CDR

Higher CDR cap is a fking gimmick wont say anything more because it is not needed **Pure CDR suggestion aint bad **

Mist Drake - Buffing Vision for champions

Due to map layout this is pointless. This suggestion aint bad the map rather doesnt go well with it

You can see further.. well you cant see over the brush.. / through walls so you actually cant see further.. This one is hard to explain but there are multiple issues

??? - Reduced Recall Time

Horrible - 2 buffs already to that

Bread Drake - ?!??!?!?!?! ( Pantheon, Have you been drinking? )

Wut? A troll one?

Metal Drake 2.0 - Shield, kind of like rakan passive ( SHIELD BATTERY )

Specificly opressive against assassins not universal

Lightning Drake - Attack Speed

Specificly designed for Azirs, bruisers and AD carries not universal enough

My Dragon suggestion.

TERABYTE DRAKE

  • Gives 200 local gold and High global experience (if you are level 18 instead of exp it gives gold)

I just think this suggestion has no flaw...

Void Dragon: Reduces summoner spell CDR and Ult cooldowns by a small amount when slain.

Would be a lot more interesting than regular ol' stat-stick stuff.

I can't vote for either of OP's because tenacity is already abundant and a DoT reward sounds kinda iffy, especially on team comps with champs that already pack that kind of stuff. A Metal Dragon that reduced the severity of knockups and knockbacks would be incredible, though.

A lightning drake could be nice. The bonus could be faster recall, attack speed or turrets attack faster.

What if instead of tenacity (since some kits are reliant on crowd controlling people) the metal drake gave a small shield based on hp (kinda like Malphite passive) that way any hp scaling (Chogath we're all watching you) can't abuse it. I'd prefer small numbers that are meant to add up, a low cooldown but easily broken shield

I think the Metal Drake actually has some really nice merit adding too many Drakes would be a problem and they would have to revamp the 'max-3 buff' since you probably would almost never see 3 of the same dragon anymore

But adding an HP related buff sounds like a good idea, as well as Metal being a core element that western mythology often decides to leave out

GOD DO NOT MAKE A NERFED ELDER DRAKE. Tenacity would be quite cool tho. Also don't make it "MORE HP DRAKE" "MORE RESISTANCES DRAKE" "MORE STATS DRAKE", make it a interesting concept, something that would give advantages in a creative way, like "Thief Drake" (idk), every 20/15/10 seconds your next attack or spell will steal 5/15/30 gold from the first enemy champ hit with said spell/attack. Or "Storm Drake", every 4th/3rd/2nd spell you hit under 3/4/5 secs will stun the first enemy champion hit for 1/1.5/2 seconds, with a 60/45/30 second cooldown. At least that's what I would do. Also a Drake that could reduce trinket cooldowns/active item cooldowns. Like 5%/10%/20% CDR on those usables. Could be cool.

I like what you're doing here, and I'll leave an upvote so it can reach out to more people. With Love, DDEK123

Thief drake... so... mini klepto? and that storm drakes sounds mad busted.

A name for the final one could be something like Mechanic Drake, perhaps?

RogueDek1 votes

Yeah the storm drake i wanted something that would just be something to make dragon more appealing. Like low ratings the first drake is always at 20 mins or smth. And yes, I went with a mini klepto drake, that would make the game even more snowbally, but instead of giving pots and shit, which is BROKEN AF, it would just give you gold from the enemy's bank, fortifing leads. I hate it when you win lane but then you still manage to lose because some dude decided to int 10 kills to the enemy team. Also Mechanic drake sounds kinda neat. Don't think it could acctually go into the game as mechanic drake, because it wouldn't fit the theme, but mayb in a new gamemode where the sole objective was to kill dragons, like 5v1 raid boss battles sorta thing. A gamemode where you'd get stronger by defeating drakes and then you'd face the final boss or smth.

Moon Dragon - faster recall Sun Dragon - increased tenacity Mystic Dragon (can only spawn once) - grants knowledge of when jungle camps die and respawn Necrotic/Swamp Dragon - spells and attacks deal damage over time equal to ?% of damage dealt Bronze Dragon - faster trinket CD Silver Dragon - reveal wards every ? number of seconds Gold Dragon - increased trinket duration. It would be cool if sweeper could be made to last far longer so it worked like a psudeo-ward for a minute, I think the other ones would benefit more than sweeper would. Mercury Dragon - decreased death timer, now your team can feed more effectively :D Iron Dragon - spellvamp/lifesteal against enemy champions Desert Dragon - damage taken is stored as a shield, the shield is slowly turned into health while out of combat inside the river. Dessert Dragon - take increased damage when in combat Bread Dragon - increased death time

Options for how the new dragons fight: A Runaan's Hurricane-like effect. An effect that stacks making switching for a few seconds important. Gains increasing whatever as it fights, pretty easy to kill, but becomes a beast if it takes too long. Lets out a cry, alerting both teams that the dragon is under attack. Puts down AOE damage zones. More or less armour piercing damage, one that is strong against tanks and one that is strong against not!tanks. Brief stuns once in a while. Dealing more magical damage. Blocks a spell/attack once in a while.

I'm not sure if having all these different dragons (6+ Elder) is a good idea for pro play, but I certainly don't think it hurts the casual side of things. Perhaps people like Poske should just get their money dragon in ranked games?

Also, Poske, you don't understand the armour and MR system in League. Google it.
