Gangplank's Barrels with hydra items

I noticed that the damage of Gangplank's Barrels does increase with the "bonus physical damage on the next attack" of sheen items (item 3057 item 3078 item 3025), but not with the "bonus physical damage on attack" of hydra items (item 3077 item 3748 item 3074). Furthermore Recurve Bow (item 1043) wouldn't grant this additional damage either. With the quotation marks I suggest that the descriptions of both effects are basically similar and yet the is a difference. I'm confused whether this is to intentionally make these items worse on Gangplank or it is just a bug.

So I'm reading this right, right? Gangplank barrels WILL take on Sheen damage, but WON'T take on Hydra damage?

All I can suggest is that perhaps this is the case because Gangplank could then lifesteal an entire wave dead, possibly? Titanic would probably just be a spillover, and again probably doesn't need that AND Trinity Force.

Otherwise, it might be an oversight.

Perhaps the Barrel damage counts as ranged effects, and thus Cleave doesn't apply?

When Gangplank kills his barrels, their explosion deals the damage of the attack that destroyed it as physical damage.

Sheen, and the items that it builds into, actually modify the damage of the affected auto attack. This is why Sheen items will increase the damage the barrels deal.

Tiamat, and items it builds into, do not modify the damage of attacks. Tiamat and the items it builds into deals a bonus aura of damage around the attacked unit. This is why Tiamat items do not affect the barrels.

Recurve Bow, and items that build from it, deal additional damage on hit, meaning that the bonus damage it applies is not actually part of the auto attack damage. This is why Recurve Bow items do not affect the barrels.

|Well, thanks. |But I'm not quite satisfied, because the descriptions of both item effects (spellblade and cleave) basically are the same. |Spellblade says: "[...] the next basic attack deals bonus physical damage equal to 100% of base attack damage on hit [...]". |Cleave (e.g. Titanic Hydra) says: "Basic attacks deal 5 + 1% of your max. health as bonus physical damage to your target [...] on hit [...]". |These obvious similarities led to my confusion. |Also, the spellblade effect of Iceborn Gauntlet does not have "on hit" and yet this effect still works. |This whole topic might be knitpicking, but I noticed this and couldn't resist posting it.

Well, the bonus damage on Titanic on hit to primary target should be applied, going by the wording, since it modifies a basic attack, but I can't test this at the moment.

The tooltip for Spellblade is incorrect. It itself is an attack modifier, not an on-hit effect. That is why the amount of health gained through lifesteal is increased by Spellblade.

Riot is very bad with tooltips.
