Smurfing should be disallowed.

TLDR at the bottom for anyone who doesn't want to read my venting

Hello, I am a new player to League of Legends. I enjoyed the old DoTA in WC3 back in the day and wanted to try playing this one to see what it's like. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the game. It's fun and creative when I am actually paired with somebody near my skill level. After playing for a week or so, I've picked up on a pretty common trend called Smurfing. I'm sure many of you on the forums understand this term perfectly.

Why is this allowed? I was under the impression that the matchmaking of this game matched players by "skill" level, which is reflected in the actual character level. I can imagine it being great fun to be paired up with 9 other people who also are equally uninformed and inexperienced as me to brawl it out in a match.

However, many if not most of the matches I come across there are people who call themselves "Smurfs". These people carry the team because they have all the experience of a ranked player and know what to do. They easily dispatch my entire team and the game is usually a one-sided extermination. Halfway through the game I begin to mostly give up.

Recently, I played a game where my team actually did pretty good. We all had several kills and were doing what you're "supposed" to do in this game. However, the enemy team had a Smurf.

Their entire team scored a total of 31 kills throughout the game. 29 of them were by the smurf. He was 29 and 2. Everyone else in the game had 1 or 2 kills and several deaths.

This does not make the game enjoyable to play and I can't say that I'll be playing much longer knowing this is allowed. There's not even an option to report people like this. I can guarantee I'm not the first person to be baffled by this, Smurfing has to have deterred many players.

I don't consider myself to be bad at video games. I play World of Warcraft pretty frequently and have done quite well in the PvP aspect of that game. I'm mainly a PvE player though. However, the skill gap between these Smurfs and the low leveled players in the games I'm in is astonishing.

TLDR Smurfing ruins the game for low experience players and should be disallowed. It isn't a challenge for the Smurf and I can see it severely deterring new players from joining.

I guess I shouldn't have expected any less. Nobody in this game has anything to say but "Get good".

expected any more* It may be annoying to hear all the time, but getting good is the solution to most of your problems lol.

So you feel that the simple comment "git gud" is sufficient for me to suddenly realize how to play, instead of some advice? That's the main problem I had with this guy.

While he was dominating us into oblivion, he did nothing but laugh, call us trash and tell us that we were noobs.

It's an incentive for you to find advice.

That isn't incentive to find advice, that's incentive to move on to a different game with less horrible people in it.

leave then

You're part of the problem. I won't even converse further with you.

Smurfing is fine, I think they just need to change the rules a bit and find a way to enforce them. I'm assuming that the reason smurfing is so loosely accepted by Riot is because without smurfs there would be basically no one for new players to play with (for example, I'm sitting here on a smurf right now and I've been in queue for almost 30 minutes...I can't imagine what this would be like with a 75% less population).

In terms of smurfs who try hard, I think it has something to do with their lack of skill in normal play on their mains. I enjoy helping new players, seeing the excitement in playing the game and succeeding that I used to share when I first started. I too am effected by the try hard smurfs, who not only are playing known broken champions but also being massively toxic to everyone. I assume these are the same people who own the giant trucks that run on 5 miles per gallon.

I hope your experience becomes better, but for years the matter of smurfing has all but been ignored by Riot. :/
