Sylas Help Please!

Alright, so I recently got banned for being Toxic on my old account, and decided that this was a chance for me to start anew and try out some different champs. As some of the Pros suggest, I decided to main ONE champion and that champion is Sylas my only issue, is that I plan on playing him in bots until I can nail down what lane he belongs into.

Here is what I think so far: Top Lane - Not Enough Damage to Sustain even if you max out his W first.

Mid Lane - Again, Not enough damage to sustain but also severely outranged and prone to CC (Ryze is an especially good counter from what I've seen)

Jungle - Not enough mana or damage to keep him alive to kill jg buffs,

Bot - Outranged, out damaged, out CS'd, etc.

Support - Dies too quickly but he does have the slow and knockup and the ability to steal someone like soraka or Sona's ulti could be useful but I think thats more of a situational thing.

Any suggestions on how to build him / what lane he should be in? I love his kit but I find him extremely difficult to play since he has such low damage and usefulness until 6.
