How in the world can that matchup still be in game? Garen is unkillable while yuumi is in him and you cant focus yuumi solo obviously... We all built executioners calling or morello and still he was outhealing our whole dmg.. i had 11 kills as jax and still couldnt do nothing to him.. Garen buys 1 item, goes full tank and still kills everyone or runs away.. Its toxic for the game

He's been decent under Diamond 2 for a bit now - because people can't kite perfectly underneath that.

all bruisers/skirmishers/tanks need nerfing, they aren't balanced, they all have high damage AND defence, one of my last games got destoryed by full tank shen and amumu FULL tank and did more damage than any attacker..... we still won in the end though due to having better teamplay but still..... riot needs to tone down attack on tanks and defence on non tanks or secondary tanks. but yuumi needs some hard nerfing too, i perma ban her, she's worse than pyke .-. she can block 100% damage on any champion 0.0

Garen has a shitty laning phase actually. He's a midgame champion with an above average lategame, like Nasus but less extreme. People in low elo just get bamboozled by grasp + silence.

Garen actually loses laning phase in nearly every toplane matchup. His strength is lvl 11-16. However, consistent with that design, he doesn't scale much with items; true ADC do scale with items. So let him farm - beyond capping his W passive he isn't getting quite as much value from the gold as you are.
Garen is actually somewhat handicapping himself by playing a duo lane, since he scales more with xp than with gold. (Garen E only becomes fully unlocked with levels, no matter how many ability points he puts into it early on. Garen passive also scales with champion level.)
Not only that, but his early waveclear and farming ability is bad. (This is one reason why you often see Garen get a Bami's Cinder as an early purchase. HP is a stat that he needs, and Bami's makes it more difficult to miss "last-hits".)
On the other hand, if either of you actually starts getting kills, then Garen becomes a major threat. Your safest play is to farm and outscale, or just let your jungler get the kill. (You probably won't be able to kill Garen, and if you kill Yuumi or the jungler (and nobody else on your team is getting fed) then you risk acquiring the Villain stigma.)

Tr4shB4NSYST3M1 votesTbh the problem is much more on yuumi than garen, garen is just the perfect host w/ his slow remove/speedup on Q and built in tankyness and cc reduction on W as well as his high base stats.
Yuumi puts him way over the edge with her super long ranged poke/slow, heal/shield and speedup.

Grievous Wounds is not a counter to Garen healing passive. (The passive doesn't even kick in until after the burn would have stopped.) (Could counter other forms of healing that he may have access to, but his passive won't be affected.) (So if everybody on your team was investing gold in a misguided counter-strategy, then that would have weakened your team considerably, besides.) Garen has no shortage of counters, though. (Apparently, knowledge is the first of them...)
Garen major counter, in the entire game, is probably Vayne. You can see that Vayne is being picked to counter Garen in pro. (It doesn't always work, for other reasons, but it's the correct pick to counter.)
