Riot: The Current Tutorial Needs an Update and Here is a List of Reasons Why
Okay, so I just made my second account and finished the first and second parts of the tutorial, and I am just confused as to how this is still in League of Legends. So I have decided to list out all of the issues I have found with it, because if this is how people completely new to the game begin their league experience no one will be able to play the game properly.
- The first part of the tutorial is urf giving people the sense the cooldowns do not matter.
- It is essentially aram on summoner's rift and Master Yi is an option to play in the first part while in real games if you play Master Yi anywhere other than jungle you will be considered to be trolling.
- There is no option to learn about jungling in the tutorial
- the bots sometimes just run under tower and tank tower shot for no reason even though when you do it, every time the game tells you about how it kills you for doing that.
- the bots also sometimes just run by each other.
- I had an ashe go mid lane, which is never correct.
- my brand support as MF did not buy a spellthiefs, and attempted to steal cs.
- There is not congratulating you on killing an enemy under tower.
- one of the correct things is that I was at the enemies inhibitor turret and 4 people showed up to try to stop me.
- bots actually just stole kills from the adc because they never stop autoing.
- in my first blind pick game my team had a jungler and the enemy team did not because smite is not an available summoner spell when starting out new. So a system should be made so that in low level game a match is only made if both teams have no one high enough leveled to have smite or both teams have at least one person with smite.
- In the second part of the tutorial I was able to keep on running down mid and was able to win without ever basing.
- There is no recommended starting items in the tutorial (doran ring/blade/shield) and the item builds are wrong for the champions.
- my client bugged when I attempted to claim the end of tutorial capsule and I did not get it and still cannot claim it after the fact becase it says I have already claimed it. (It fixed itself after logging in for the third time)
- flash is essentially a required summoner spell in League and the fact that it is not available in the tutorial or even in the first blind pick game seems wrong to me. Nothing teaches you the importance of the summoner spells.
- For champions that have combos (like Lux) there is no portion of the tutorial that teaches you them. (In my first blind pick game I had a support lux who did not understand that concept and it really reduced her ability to impact the game since lux is a one shot champion)
- The part of the champion screen that tells you where that champion is supposed to go in summoners rift is not emphasized nearly enough, as some players may just completely miss the who to play screen. Maybe implement something like that in champ select of blind pick?
- In the tutorial I was ahri and went to mid lane because as someone who has already played the game I know that is where an Ahri is supposed to go. The game sent a soraka to mid lane with me since I was able to really go to any lane I wanted (the arrows pointing out to the three lanes). Have only one arrow pointing to the desired lane, and put the 5th player in the top lane. Or even have an intro that introduces each player on your team, what their purpose kind of is and what lane they go to.
- In blind pick as a player that is too low leveled to choose their own runes the game gave me press the attack on caitlyn, which in some situations is correct, but it didn't even explain to me what that meant. This concept needs an introduction.
- Also, the concept of biweekly patches needs a true introduction as people should be enticed to learn what is going on in the game.
This is really all I can think of for now, but it still presents a decent amount of room for improvement on the introduction to the game. The current state of the tutorial is truly disappointing. I expected at least something formidable from a game that has one of the largest player bases in the world. I know riot values its players, but the fact that players with a rank of gold 4 0lp and below makes up 70% of the player base means that something with the way the game is taught must be wrong. Since really anything below plat/diamond is considered "low elo" by halfway decent players (I am a plat player so a little biased on what is "low elo." I know that most of that is probably smurfs that people don't play and accounts people have forgotten about, but that is still a substantial number of players who are only getting the tip of the iceberg that is the game League of Legends.
