Ranked is broken?

So I got put through my placement matches and was placed in silver 5 which I was completely fine with because I know that you have to earn your way to the top of the ranks and starting low is where everyone was at some point. But, I can't help but notice that there are some players in this ELO that don't even know how to play the lanes or positions that they were given. Plus, they can't even handle their lanes and just get completely destroyed by the other team. I thought it was annoying to see that these people didn't even have the skill to cs and to be able to maintain their effectiveness in game later on. I found it weird how I got stuck in this ELO where I was doing better than everyone else and saw how their decisions in game play were completely OFF THE HOOK. Sure one of them may have had more kills than the rest of us but they didn't know how to handle a fight in as a team when it came down to it and they didn't know how to even back off when it was needed. I like to believe that I am just an average player and am not the best at this game obviously but I am pretty sure that I showed skill beyond this play level in my placement matches. I am not sure how the ranking system quite works or if league even has one but I would like to know more on this topic. If someone could lead me to a source where I can find out just on how the placement system works please let me know. If it is based on wins and losses then I would be quite surprised and if it is based on performance I would be appalled as to why I was put where I was.

It's very difficult to learn the advanced strategies of League in order to climb out of low elo when you're in low elo because a lot of the players are monkeys and don't know a damn thing about strategy. So its difficult for you to pick up on something that doesn't exist in your elo. The best way to climb low elo if you aren't already a smurf is to main a champion and get really disgusting mechanics on them and reck. Be sure to pick up on every tiny fragment of strategy as you go on, and play enough so you can start thinking for yourself. Some people are lucky and start off in Gold, and those people have it way easier. Though they are no way near ready for that rank, they get to experience games that are at least a bit coordinated, which makes soaking up game knowledge much easier/faster for them.

You're in low elo too lol. But regardless yeah this is pretty good advice. Either one trick, or play an impactful role like jungle or a roam heavy mid laner and tell people what you want them to do in fights and when to pressure and when to ward and so on. It's a struggle, but if you deserve to climb, you will. A lot of this is dependent on your ability to bring up the play level of your teammates in any given game.

Well I'm G1, so I've climbed out of where he is now. Plus plat is considered high elo so I'll be there soon XD

Implying people in higher elo are not monkeys. Every single game i have atleast one going 0/10 mostly 2 and ruining the game. It just doesn't change.

Yeah it does.

The enemy that's getting fed is much better at using the advantage now =)

First time ranks for accounts DO NOT get placed in bronze.

So if you deserve bronze 5, you'll still get silver 5 your first time placing

Also, while you're placing, they give you weird match ups. Insert X people with these X factors and multiply it by the possibility of Autofill jacking up everyone playing their mains to begin with.

Voila! you have 2k17's broken, inefficient ranking system that frustrates any player not skilled enough to sail through their elo. Did you just win 3 games in a row?

Voila! you're going to be matched with someone who's been losing consistently in attempt to balance out your win streak. Does it swing the opposite end if you start losing? Do you get matched with people better? Not AS consistently

Are you seeing 3 different skill tiers on Lol Nexus? In solo/duo? Don't be surprised! Don't expect it to be evenly distributed either!

You don't get matched with people who are on a losing streak you just get matched with slightly higher elo players. 3 wins in a row is nothing, it really doesn't change much.

And of course there are going to be scrubs in your games, it's silver 5, and I don't care what you say that's basically equivalent to bronze 5 in terms of skill. You need to order around the scrubs and tell them what they need to do because obviously they don't know, or they wouldn't be in that elo. If you believe you shouldn't be stuck in silver, take the games into your own hands and actually shotcall, tell people what they need to do in fights, and tell them where to go on the map.

Also, both you and the OP are playing champs that are actually hard to carry games with. Stop playing teemo, stop playing hecarim, and get yourself something brainless like volibear, annie, or something like wukong or malphite/maokai.

Calling everyone in bronze and silver "scrub" off the bat and demoting anyone in silver to bronze is kind of presumptuous. My main point was similar to yours; the skill variation is really weird in silver. Its definitely higher in difficulty than bronze though, even if better players still consider both "bad divisions" Saying you need to shot call because everyone is bad isn't a smart approach. Come on buddy. Have some decency when referring to your fellow players. Yes, you're going to get people of crazy skill difference. Call plays yes, but don't expect people to listen. Don't get frustrated when they don't respond to pings or plays. Let your attempts at helping fall freely so that its a pleasant surprise when people listen and not a test of your temper when they don't.

I disagree with Moose3's opinion of matchmaking. Ive personally seen platinums in my rank silver games and it wasn't flex. The other team was not evenly distributed in comparison that match either. If I had it to post, I would.

Most people in silver the only difference between them and a bronze player is:

  1. Games played
  2. Placed into silver

There really is no difference between the two, and no silver is no harder than bronze. I've leveled at least 10 accounts from bronze to diamond, and back in s3 was a bronze/silver player, the skill level is the exact same.

And I'm not saying you need to shotcall because your team is bad, just if you believe that you should climb, that would mean that you are, on average, performing and understanding the game better than those you are playing with in any given game. So if you believe you should be climbing, shotcall and tell them where to go in order to carry. All I'm saying is tell them what to do in chat in a constructive way that will make them better players, and will aid you in climbing so they don't play fights horribly every time.

I have seen plats in my games as well, normally when I skip divisions and get from silver 5 to gold 5 in around 20 games. The reasoning behind this could be:

  1. Your winrate was very high, similar to mine in the example I gave.
  2. Their winrate was trash and they were plat 5, sitting with around gold 5 mmr about to be demoted.
  3. They were duo with somebody in a lower division, both with relatively low mmr.
  4. You were looking at either their flex queue rank, 3v3 rank, or their rank from a previous season.

^^^^^ I'd trust this.

That makes more sense than anything I've been told or read so far. Thank you for clarification

I've only done my placements once and got Bronze 3? :S

This is why if you actually want to climb out of low elo, you have to take charge of your games and order the monkeys on your team around.

idontgiveabother1 votes

You can't do that if no one listens, every gets caught over and over and people just generally don't have a clue how to close out a game. Or honestly just not dying and actually paying attention to the minions that walk in the middle of your lane.

NoThnxJefflol1 votes

In theory yes this makes sense, however, despite what I say the majority of players in this elo either: -refuse to listen to you -get offended -flame you -or just simply mute you because they feel threatened.

The fact remains that you cannot force them to not jump into a 1v5, you cannot force them to cooperate with team if they simply don't want to, and flat out you cannot force them to pay attention to what's going on around them.

its extremely frustrating when you ping, communicate, etc and they just don't listen and actually do the opposite.

Ranked is indeed broken. However, I don't think a player's Rank is an accurate gauge of their overall skill level nor game knowledge.

Well, I kinda get your point, my winrate is much lower a low Elo than at high Elo. That's probably because good macro does not matter in low Elo. I like bringing tons of utility to my team, that's OP in higher Elo (for example, get vision, set up objectives, etc). However, it is useless at low Elo. At low Elo, what work is play snowball carry champ and stomp by getting 20 kills each game. Which, this may sounds surprising, but I find boring. I prefer the macro play. And after a lot of play, I think that good macro only start at high platinum... Good luck to get there.

Its all about averages. I got placed in Bronze 5 after barely playing since S3. If you think silver is bad Oh boy it gets a lot worse. I climbed out of bronze 5 to silver 5 yesterday by just sticking it out and being as consistent as possible. If you have good game knowledge and make decent decisions you wont have a problem winning. I think Gold/Plat is when "skill" matters more than knowledge/decision making(because that's when ppl do these things also)

In my opinion, the best way to climb out of low elo is to play normals with highly ranked friends.
