Platinum Demotion Question

Hi everyone, I have a question about demotion.

I'm currently platinum 5 and about 3 weeks ago I climbed to platinum 3, but then I went on really bad tilt to Platinum 5 with 0LP. After losing a few games on 0lp I got a orange icon that said I was been shielded from demotion.

As I understand the only way to get demoted from a platinum 5 is to have gold 5 MMR, right? And what happens once your shield expires in Platinum 5 with 0LP, do you get demoted to Gold 1 instantly on your first lost with 0LP (even if your MMR is still Platinum 5 or gold 1/2)?

You can get demoted from decay not playing in a month

I'm not aware of any 'shielding' from demotion except when you were very freshly promoted to that tier which does not sound like that case. Are you sure it's a shield, and not just a warning that you're almost at the required mmr to be demoted?

I'd be pretty wary about losing at plat 5 0 LP though, I see a number of games where the average rank of your opponents was gold 3ish, so you might be closer to gold 5 mmr than you realise. (It's important in these situations to remember that op.gg and similar only estimate your mmr, so just because it might say you're approximately plat 5 mmr [or otherwise not near gold 5 by its estimates], you might still be near the point of demotion.)

Interesting. I'm assuming the OCE ranked system is functionally identical to NA and theres no curve balls related to that, but I'm guessing it's "shielded" because your mmr is still above the demotion point, rather than some sort of other shield. So if your shield expires it'd mean your mmr really was down to the point where losses could tip you over to gold 1, rather than still near plat 5 level (which again, I strongly doubt your mmr actually is, in spite of op.gg's estimate).

i think at one point my mmr was around gold5/silver1
