New to the ranked system: Question about LP gain and loss

Hey guys. This is the first season I truly take a stab at ranked. In the past I have always preferred to play with friends in normals and only played 30 or so games per season. Last season I decided I wanted the victorious skin so I played a few games and got Gold. This time around, since my brother stopped playing league and most of my friends play at different times than me, I decided to really try my hand at soloQ. I climbed to Diamond IV with a 57% winrate (nothing special, I know, but I was pretty happy about it).

Anyway, I've seen an innumerable number of posts like this in the past but besides general anecdotes I have never seen a post that truly explains LP gain properly.

Recently I have been playing very poorly and have been on a loss streak.

I am currently Diamond IV with 55% winrate (it tanked by 2%) yet I am only receiving 12-14lp per win and I just lost 21lp last game. Just two days ago those numbers were almost exactly inverted. I was gaining between 21 and 24 lp and losing between 12 and 14 lp.

Do any of you know if perhaps your recent winrate influences your lp loss/gain more than your total winrate, AND would a winstreak resolve my current LP gain situation or should I just consider trying with another account (which I am slowly levelling up)

Thank you for your time| |

Edit: I have read that your total games influence this but it is hard to comprehend how 10 extra games can have such a big impact

Streaks matter

Losing streaks will increase your LP losses and winning streaks will increase your LP wins Unless your goal is to hit challenger in 100 games or less you shouldn't care about it

yes streaks do matter...also the length of the streak has a much higher effect on your lp gain loss. Your MMR is slighly displaces bases on wins and losses...the more you lose the lower it gets....so if your MMR should be Dia 4 and you have been on a good losing streak then your MMR might display Plat 2....the lower your MMR the worse the LP gain...on the other hand if your MMR is Dia 1 and youre in Dia 4...youll earn much more LP and could skip ranks.

Thank you very much. That is what I wanted to know.

Mind if I ask, how did you hit diamond in a span of a month, playing only support? Judging by your op.gg, you seem to get carried a lot (no offense) but that has to be some extreme luck which I do not have.

Excuse me? Haha which part of my op.gg makes it look like I got carried? My KDA is pretty darn good (not challenger smurf level but still great) on all of my most played champs. So are my winrates on them. Both those stats looked even better until very very recently when, like I said, I started playing horribly.

The way I did it was focusing on myself and always focusing on what I need to do to win. You may have noticed that even in my post I solely blamed myself for this loss streak, even though SoloQ is still SoloQ, and my teammates DID have an impact in our losses.

The reason I climbed relatively fast is because after my couple of days stuck in high gold I started focusing only on myself and not my teammates. Although I have so much improvement to make that definitely raised my gameplay.

Maybe. But it's not 'relatively fast', it's more like 'surprisingly fast' for you to climb from Gold 1 to Diamond in a month playing mostly support champions.

I'm actually working on a guide of sorts that I will share on the boards, relating my experience in SoloQ for the first time. Keep an eye out for it.

In my opinion support is an OP role to climb with by the way. I will explain more of that in my guide
