The Role of Supports and their gameplay need to be reworked.

Forget all you toxic Yasu-op mains.

I've always loved playing support. When I first picked this game up 3 years ago i always bounced between top, jg and mid. But, once i unlocked Alistar, i decided to try out support. That was the best feeling ever, working together with the adc to take out the opposing duo. I still main Alistar today, but, I very rarely pick up support. Why? Because they are not impactful enough to be worth playing.

Now, before you say that I'm a complete fool for saying that, you should probably consider where im standing before you type that 3 paragraph rant i see you typing :I. I absolutely love playing support. I always have since that first supp game i went into. But they are just not a strong enough role to consider taking above the others. The other roles are highly different from support in their lane phase. Mid lane and Top lane both have the lane all to themselves. All the cs is theirs if they can manage it. They have one enemy laner to deal with(2 if your against Quinn?), and can carry their teams if they get some kills. Jungle goes through the jungle minions for gold and xp, and gank lanes when they can. Managing the Dragon and Baron buffs is their responsibility. Jungle champions can very often carry once they start doing their job well. ADCs lane with a support. Their job during the lane phase is to last hit minions for gold and xp, Poke the other duo and scale up. If they get kills, adcs can carry extraordinarily hard. A very certain ADC can carry just by hitting lategame and start 3 shotting people, but thats another story for another post.

Now we get to support. Whats the advantage of being support? Oh yeah, assisting the team! Thats cool right? But how? Vision and either cc or heals are the main thing. A Supports job is to fill in that 5th slot in a teamfight. You have your tanks, like Braum and Tahm, who focus on keeping the team healthy. Then there are supports like Soraka and Nami, who throw spells from the backline to keep the team healthy.

(Lux and MF are not mentioned, because they aren't real supports. Real supports dont grab sightstone and build straight dmg after that. If they even grab sightstone in the firstplace...)

Supports are the fifth champ that keeps the team running smoothly. But, often times, they go unnoticed and taken for granted. The reason for this is the fact that a support champion cannot carry like the other roles. ADC, TOP, MID, JG, they are all capable of carrying a game by getting extremely fed, playing their champion correctly and steamrolling through the enemy team is possible with almost every champ in those roles. You don't have to be as _team dependent _ as you do with support. Because, lets face it, no matter how well you do, no matter how hard you try as a support, at the end of the day, you have to depend on your team to win games.

It really doesnt matter which support you pick. Pick up any one of them, except brand... They are team reliant. You NEED the team to pull together and win. Supports kits are geared to be team dependant. This is an extremely disliked play style, especially with the salt of this community and the fact that people like WINNING games, and being a recognized part of why they won. What needs to be done is

  1. To make their job stronger, and more diverse. Make them more impactful in EVERY phase of the game. The Lackluster gameplay and lack of strength because support items are very weak sometimes is bothersome.
  2. Make them able to win through means other than simply wiping out the enemy team. Add options for a support to take a win even if their team isn’t performing well.
  3. Give them a clearer, more impactful way of winning games. Many people take for granted the support, other than wards and heals/cc.
  4. Make them able to win games. Give them ways to take down those towers and take out the nexus even if the team is failing.

So brand and zyra aren't supports I take it? Since they build damage?

Riot didn't create the support role -- the support role came about during pro matches because it was the most optimal way of winning games. Yes they are team dependent but I don't see that as an issue.

I'm play ADC quite a bit and I'll tell you right now the difference between a good and bad support plays a huge impact on how a game goes.

Finally I think any champion can support, just like any champion can mid or top; you just need to be able to fill whatever it is that your team needs. If your team lacks damage and has picked more utility focused laners - there's absolutely nothing wrong with grabbing a Lux, Zyra or Brand and building full damage after a sightstone. What bugs me is when people pick those laners when there's already plenty of damage on the team. You should be able to vary who you choose, I can play MF, Sivir, Ashe, and Jinx depending on the utility damage that my team needs. It would be nice if supports did the same.

Supports can definitely take out towers if the team is failing. Zz'rot Portal is core on Bard, mountain drakes make everyone able to hurt towers.
