Why Veigar got nerfed, wtf is rito thinking? [Speculation]

Recently Riot has really cut down on the point and click aspect of this game. Of that last couple champions, how many can you name that have a lot of point and click abilities? Hell, Vel'koz, Kalista, Gnar, Azir--these champions are basically most of not all skillshots as far as abilities go.

So basically, according to Rito, skillshots = counter play. (What is the counter to skillshots? Mobility!)

Now Veigar: old Veigar, once fed, or against an AP champion, could basically 100-0 an AP champion if he landed his stun. Basically, if he landed that one skillshot, there was no counterplay--the target would die without being able to juke or do anything at all. One could argue that yes, buy a QSS to have a response, but no mid laner is going to want to buy an item they will have to eventually sell, not to mention they would have to QSS almost every time they got stunned.

(And while it's fun to be the one 100-0ing people, it isn't too fun dying instantly.)

Look at the top meta champions people complain about: Zed, Kalista, Ahri, Nidalee--these are all champions that make use of skillshots or have limited range/limitations on their autotargetted skills that forces them to use "skill" in how they fight (Ahri's auto-lock on fox fire thingies).

**tl;dr rito thinks non-skillshot is toxic. Therefore Veigar nerfs in order to get him to be more skill-shot-y, and why they moved power to his skillshot ability. **

discuss plox

personally i think the nerfs are semi-justified (inb4 all the downvotes ggggg) because yes, rito was right in saying there was a lack of counterplay. However, they've basically gutted the champions main/only form of defense which is not cool. I'm thinking they should either make the stun have two range bubbles: one where the shorter range bubble has the stun on the old timing while the other has the stun with more delay. That way, if Veigar wants to use his stun in the old lacking-counterplay way, he has to put himself out there and risk getting too close or deal with having a lengthy delay. However, if someone is trying to kill him, he has the old defensive mechanism, and isn't a sitting duck for anyone with a dash/can walk fast.
