onetricking

Hello, dear fellas. I would like to start a small topic about onetricking.

What do you think about being an OTP? Is it good? Can it get you higher elo? Does it get you higher elo, because you will be able to carry the game with the champ or because you play the champ so often, that you don't even pay attention to what you do with him and you pay more attention to the game in general? Do you consider OTP's as a bad players, because they can't play other champs well? Who is your most favourite "well known" OTP player? And who is the most hated? (hi, LL Stylish, you cheeky arrogant little %%%%)

Share your opinions!

P.S.: if anyone would recommend me some champ for the toplane, that is not completely braindead, but not very mechanical as well, something in the middle... I'd be glad. I'm looking for 2-3 champs I'd like to learn to play... I was thinking maybe Irelia , Camille or Kled ? What champ would you recommend to a scrub who never reached higher elo than gold II?

One tricking will get you to diamond, almost independent of champion choice, as you'll master the champion and be able to focus on bigger picture stuff. Higher ban rate champ will be a slower process, but it'll still get there eventually.

Basically every champ has a one trick in high diamond+, and most have master+ players, although the specific choice of champion can limit you there.

Don't have any strong opinions on one tricks. Some are utterly useless if forced onto a different champion, but many of them are still quite competent on other champs and just choose to stick with one. The most common trend in low elo players tends to be that they're too focused on trying to learn every champ because they don't want to be 'bad' and leap around between like a dozen champs, and hence stay low elo for a very long time. It's much easier to master a champ, then get good at the game, and then start expanding your pool of champs once you've already got the game knowledge down compared to trying to learn the game and learn a bunch of champs, since then it's easy to lose track of whats champion mechanical misplay and what was just poor game knowledge and so on.

Firstly, one tricking isn't necessarily the best option for several factors

-Your main becomes bad in the current meta (like me with hec) -Your main gets banned -Your main gets nerfed

This is why most higher elo players decide to not one trick, and instead become 'meta slaves' and IMO it's the best option to climb

Since you're playing a top laner, meta shifts dont really have too much of an impact. Irelia Camille and Kled are all excellent picks and pretty much guaranteed high plat - diamond if you're experienced.

Maybe it is just me being stuck in normal games with low gold and lower, but Hecarim feels quite powerful no matter the meta tho.

Maybe it is just me being stuck in normal games with low gold and lower, but Hecarim feels quite powerful no matter the meta tho.

For context, in silver-gold games (flex) I usually get 30+ kills as Hecarim, the problem is once you get to my ELO, people understand how to play against certain champs, and right now in the meta were in Hecarim cant dive the enemy carries anymore or else risks getting disengaged (Janna) or cced, not to mention the 2-3000 hp shields making it near impossible for him to perform his intended purpose, better to just stick with tanks and get stoneborn ardent knights vow

One tricking is great for climbing only if you play a champion that has a low play rate. That way you can consistently play your best champion. For example, I play Vel'Koz all the time and he has a low play rate.

You don't have to worry about the meta because if you one trick a champion, you'll have so much immense skill with that champion that meta shifts and counters won't have a significant effect on you.

I actually have two screen shots of someone on my team saying "RIP mid" just because I chose Vel'Koz against a zed mid. The second screen shot was the post game after I beat the zed. I was able to beat my counter because of my immense skill from one tricking. Do you want to see the two screen shots? I find them quite hilarious.

One Tricking is pretty good, especially nowadays.

Is it good? Can it get you higher elo? Does it get you higher elo, because you will be able to carry the game with the champ or because you play the champ so often, that you don't even pay attention to what you do with him and you pay more attention to the game in general?

Well If you put a lot of time into a champion, you're more likely to improve at them over a lot of other champions. For instance, a one trick would know all of their capabilities and apply them in every situation accordingly, rather then say just a regular enthusiast, who may make misjudgements sometimes.

I will say its a lot easier for me to focus on a gameplay but its not because I pay more attention to the game over my champion, but rather I understand better what I can or can't do and how to manipulate a situation around my own capabilities. For instance, as an elise main (1.6 mil, but not otp) I understand my strength is early and then play around who I can get ahead to help me dominate the mid game better or carry me in the late game when I become weight/everybody gets sick of my shit and focuses me (so plan b, the next guy to steam roll). If I play someone like nocturne for example, I don't have similar game knowledge, it ain't that I'm focusing on the game its I'm focusing "when should I actually try to be useful and what opportunities am I missing that I actually could've taken if I was confident."

Do you consider OTP's as a bad players, because they can't play other champs well?

Specific to the person. There's a lot of OTP's I've met in my days that are either jackasses or simply don't know their champion throughly, argue that they're gods and everybody is wrong, and are stuck in a low tier to begin with, or feed because they didn't get who they wanted and nobody dodged when they took ghost clarity.

Then there are some that climb, are respectable, and really freaking good that they inspire you a little.

Generally, OTPs are good people, they respectfully just enjoy their champion, and if that's all they care about is their connection with a champ then good on them. If they OTP and then all chat how good they are, meh trash for all I care. Just a lot of the time, a otp can get a little over their head about their experience advantage to begin with and rub it into your face if you're trying something oddball or something you don't have as much XP on.

As for not being able to play other champs, nah thats fine. I don't agree with dumb game costing decisions like "hostaging as smite ghost nunu support to force you to dodge", but if they simply suck at other things, they're going to most likely climb faster when they play what they enjoy most and can't win everything, as long as they're not inting, they can be carried. Ironically my winrate is higher from my Elise getting picked or banned, simply because I just play safe on other stuff and let the team carry me for once.

P.S.: if anyone would recommend me some champ for the toplane, that is not completely braindead, but not very mechanical as well, something in the middle... I'd be glad.

Camille is really fun and rewarding. She's not hard to learn but when you master her beyond her basic mechanics she's crazy. I actually really really enjoy her and she's my wing girl. Kled is pretty good too, I can't say much on him as I don't play him like I do camille, but he's solid ime. Irelia eh... I wouldn't recommend it simply because irelia is an "older champ" and older champs are more likely to get changed either like xin zhao or full VGUs so all your time is wasted. At least you know newer or very popular ones won't get changed anytime soon. I'd lean away from heavily contested pro picks (as they get random nerfs even if bad in solo) and VGU qualifiers as well as new champions for the first few months since they can have weird balancing stages (basically you'll end up like kindred otps).

Its really about who you resonate with best. Don't one trick a champion for "freelo", if you're gunna master something it'll be freelo for you no matter, but at least you can master something you personally find really fun or relatable.
