Hextech crafting unfair for support mains/players

Dominic2021··6 votes·3,065 views

My friend who mains support almost never gets a s rank in games because she mains support. As you most likely know to get a s rank in a game there's many attributes that are needed like kills, dragons, killing towers, and as a support your job isn't really to get kills and objectives. She and many others may find it almost impossible to get a s rank. Now to get these Hextech chests you need the s rank and for supports its nearly impossible. I believe something needs to be done to either the end game ranking system or the hextech system for people who main/play support.

i get S graded as a support at regular intervals it all depends on the champ you play i believe

Yeeeep. I had a 2/0/6 Thresh game that ended very quickly and ended up with an A-. Since Thresh is one of the top 3 most played champions in the game, it is rather difficult to reach that S rating.

In another game, I played as Vlad top and went something along the lines of 6-5-6 but still got an S rating.

As vlad top it makes sense you got the S rank because you most likely got tower, or killed drag, or baron which goes to show my point that supports arent meant to do that.

I don't know the criteria for supports, but my buddy who's a Thresh main gets S ranks fairly regularly.

Support is my least played role and i think its the easiest to get an S with man, you just help your adc, help your jg, help your mid, get the most assist % participation and ward the whole game, be in every fight and youre golden you get an easy. Just always be in the team fights and when objetives are taken and ward all game and you get that S. Mostly what i do when i play support and at the least i get A.

Exaclty you get a A rank not the S rank you need to get a Hextech chest

"At least an A" mostly i get S but when u get a bad game and lose it, i still get that A or A+

Chaotic Sage2 votes

I mean...I get an S in around 80% of my support games. Win or Lose. So not sure if they're doing something wrong or what. I guess it depends on what champ they're supporting as too though.

What kind of champions is he playing? I mainly play Support, and almost always gets S rank. I would assume he is playing non-support in the support role and as such the ranking assumes he is playing a different role thus resulting in a different rank.

She does play a actual support, she mainly plays leona but doesnt seem to get a S rank

Then she must be doing something wrong. What is the build like? is she getting the usual support start item, upgrading it, sightstone, placing wards, getting a lot of assist?

They havent really gone into detail on how someone gets a certain rank grade, but i would assume for Supports. it would be mainly supporting an ally by placing wards, getting a lot of assist, etc.

Dominic20211 votes

Yes she builds normally, me and a group of friends play together and she supports one of our friends and always build the normal support items like sight stone, face of the moutain, etc...

then, and I don't mean to be a jerk here, she isn't playing as well as other Leonas.

I've gotten S rank with scores mostly consisting of assists; kills and objectives aren't all that's factored in.

Im aware theres many factors that come in when getting S rank but many of those are getting kills and objectives

you must not be playing support right

Im actually not sure, Truthfully I am only aware of the kills, assits, tower, and objective part of the whole formula. So you could be right it may have to do with the items as well.

I'm a support main and I get it. It's grading you based on other players who use that champ, so don't play someone (for example) who also midlanes. Lux and Lulu might be bad, but the tanks, or Nami might be a lot easier to get an S on.

ScoobyDoo771 votes

Actually you can play lux support and it is graded accordingly to players who play lux support, and not how midlaners play her.

I am not talking about myself, I play lux mid, I am talking about a friend of mine who mains leona

ScoobyDoo771 votes

Yea im also a mid lane main and i play her there and i can get an S as lux support and its even harder to get it as a midlane lol, well for me mostly.

Dominic20211 votes

Yes I see you what your saying but as I have said she mains leona... A tanky support who isn't exaclty a common support. Now I forgot who said it but I play lux mid and sometimes support, and I can that being hard to get the S rank on as support because she is mainly played mid

Tell her to try Braum or Naut

Riot claimed that they set the system up to take the support role into account. Their example was Annie. They have supposedly adjusted the system to be able to compensate for whatever role you are playing with the champion. If you are Annie mid, you better get a great KDA with lots of CS and pwnage. If you are support Annie.... since they purposefully do not reveal how the system works then I will assume that you need to get a lot of assists, don't die, and place a lot of wards around the map.

Ill be honest I wasnt aware they had said that, thanks for the info. But I dont see how they would make it so a system run by a computer can tell the difference between annie in mid and annie in support besides the fact is maybe able to read the code for her items which still seems unreal.

Pandemic Punch1 votes

Yes, it is hard to really grasp what exactly it is that they are doing since they won't tell us how it works. Riot claims that they intend not to tell us though because it is their belief that people will begin to abuse the system if they knew exactly how to get that S rating.

Dominic20212 votes

And riot is probably right, people would do what ever they could to get that S rank especially because of the new Hextech crafting

Pandemic Punch1 votes

Agreed. People would end up not playing their role properly to try to aim for that S rank.

Dominic20211 votes

Ok first of all its a she and Im well aware theres many more things that contribute to getting a S rank but many of these do involve getting kills, I understand some supports may find it easier to get S ranks and some more off meta supports will be harder. But I can tell you know that she isnt the off meta type and mains leona. I cant think of a time where she has gotten a S rank, while I must admit she isnt the best player I know but she isnt the worst either. Her score is usually 0/4/16 or something along those lines. From what I read a lot of people get S ranks playing support so maybe there isnt as big of a problem as I thought but I still believe that support players may find it a bit harder to get a S rank.

In how many games do you not die multiple times as support, after all you live and die to protect your team... so not having for then two deaths is highly unlikely

AsphodelNext1 votes

Depends on the support; Soraka could easily have a game with no kills no deaths and 7+ assists just sitting wayyy in the back and healing. Whereas a tanky initiator like Leona isn't doing their job right if they don't soak up loads of damage and die a few times.

Dominic20211 votes

Yes and remember tanks are meant to take damage thats why their called tanks... and my friends plays leona meaning if she does go head first into the fight and may end up dying in a few fights, and I feel riot she be a little more loving to supports who do go head first into battle

Chaotic Sage1 votes

That is straight up wrong, friend...I've had several games of going 0-3/5-8/25+ and getting an S- - S - S+

Dominic20212 votes

I never said that supports dont die... because I know they do and many people can still get a S rank as I learned today but again as I learned today it also depends on the support... Similar to what some one said it may be easier to get a S rank on a tanky support who is meant for support but if you play annie in support but she is mainly found in mid it may be a little more difficult

Dominic20211 votes

Alright guys I gotta go but thanks for the advice, I'll make sure to tell her to check if shes building right and to try other supports and maybe even play a little more safe especially in the early game where tanks are more squishy. Again thank you for the feed back because I didnt expect much XD

ScoobyDoobyDooo1 votes

I just had a 6/7/22 game yesterday with thresh....i got an 'S' having died so many times and with KDA of '4'. I think the system has different criteria's set for the players based on the roles. Obviously a support cannot get a kill streak or split push to get turrets may be it is based on how many wards you place, the creeps u share with ur adc or something like that.

Goukenslayer1 votes

its so simple to get s or s- as support. Just get 6 kills with deaths less than it. easy s-. get 18+ assists within early minutes of the game and less than 2 deaths easy S
