Xerath quality of life fix!!!!!!

Before jumping to conclusions of "too overpowered what the heck are you thinking" please read through everything. Understand that this is just a vague suggestion and any balance changes could make this nothing but positive for Xerath players and opponents.

Xerath has an obviously exploitable weakness - his lack of mobility. The only defense he has is an aoe slow and single target skillshot stun that hardly does anything when they are on top of you. The way Xerath players must work around this weakness is also obvious, exploit his range advantage. Which if done correctly can be very hard to play against and very boring. He must play so safe that the lane just isn't fun for anybody.

Any gank from jungler will leave you dead if you do not have flash up. But the point of this is not to make him overpowered and give the king of range more mobility than a late game kassadin.

My suggestion - update to Xerath e: After casting e, he gains the ability to use runic walk (or whatever you wanna call it). Xerath can recast e to shift forward a similar distance of flash. If this ability is used, his e goes on a much longer cooldown (25-30 seconds). This would mean that the lack of e can be exploited if Xerath does not learn his lesson. It will give him an option to not die but still punishes him for overextending as his e is now on a huge cooldown.

Ways to balance - if op Cannot shift through walls. Puts all abilities on cooldown if used (I don't think this is a good idea since the chance of using it as a risky offensive move would be removed). Delay after e cast before it becomes available. Decrease distance or speed of shift. Cooldown.

These are just some quick ideas to make sure this isn't beyond op. I just really think it is impossible to play safe enough with all the mobility at the disposal of enemy. And even if you do, that just isn't fun for anyone.

As to why this would be positive to opponents of Xerath - it gives them an opponent to face that isn't so one-dimensional. They have another element that they need to consider but also another element they can exploit.

I fully acknowledge there are players like Zwag that make his kit work and they are insanely good at it. But those are the best of the best, there will always be an exception to the rule. This is aimed at an improvement for the masses.

This gives Xerath a chance but also punishes him from overextending, I struggle to see a negative in this and would love input from the community and hopefully a Riot member sees this and an respond to why or why not this would be bad.

I understand your frustration since I like to play Swain and it can be a nightmare if someone like a Rek'sai feels like camping you due to lack of mobility. However, I don't think the right idea is to give everyone more mobility. If anything this game has too much of it already and not enough ways to punish it (or allocate it properly in a champions power budget).

Having said that, I like the creativity and it's a really cool idea.

Thank you for the response! You are right, the game has too much mobility as it is. But I think that is just how the game has become. Hence why I incorporated the idea of a huge e cooldown if the dash/shift is used. To give the enemy something to punish and reward them for forcing Xerath to use it. A counter argument to this could be, well why would they feel rewarded if they would've otherwise killed him? And to that I would argue that he most likely would not have been in that situation without the dash. Meaning the lane would've been a stale back and forth of who gets minions and trying to avoid poke.

Stop.

Gameplay design is obviously not your thing.

Worst idea I ever read about Xerath. You legit have no respect to his identity. And for you know, Xerath is NOT a runic mage.

Where is the constructive criticism? I just called it that cause he has a rune looking thing in his chest. Call it arcane shift or zippy zip for all I care. Would love to know why you think it doesn't suit. Instead of just blindly throwing comments around.

Xerath is high damage artillery mage with laughable mobility. It is his identity. Stop giving him mobility at the first place. Especially a low budget Lissandra E with ridiculous limitations like putting ALL his spells in cooldown after cast? Are you insane?

What about 30 seconds cooldown April's Fool joke?

I thought there was no need for explanation.

You can buff him without giving him mobility. Rework his passive or buff his damage or increase his range. There are countless options without making him like everyone. Not everyone needs mobility.

Firstly, I literally said I think it would be a bad idea to put all the spells on cooldown. It was just an option to nerf if needed. Secondly, the 30 seconds would only be to his e and again, just a suggestion. Buffing his damage doesn't do anything but make him op. That's the problem with damage and range buffs. The reason reworks and ability changes happen is because it doesn't suit the feel of the game anymore. This would just give xerath more options.

The main thing I'm confused about... if he used his E would he dash in the direction he used his E? Or would the dash part of his E be completely independent of the direction he shot the stun portion of his E in?

Either way, I think this idea is still too powerful... champions that are essentially given a flash in their kit are typically very heavily balanced around that concept, typically by being melee (see: Fizz, Kassadin, Shaco) or by some other means in their kit (Lissandra sacrifices damage for utility and safety, Ezreal requires landing multiple skillshots in short succession in order to maximize his damage, etc.)

Champions with exceptionally long range are generally supposed to be as good as dead if the enemy manages to get on top of them, as that is meant to be one of their design weakness to compensate for their obvious range strength. I feel like significant power would have to be pulled out of Xerath's kit to make this change not exceptionally unbalanced at higher levels of play (although I could see how this change could benefit lower skill levels of play without breaking everything).

Overall: probably too strong of an idea, but it is good that you are thinking! Your presentation of the idea was fairly clear, polite, and humble. You acknowledged both sides of the spectrum when presenting your idea and that is impressive enough, even if the idea might not be the most fitting change in my opinion. I'd love to see you come up with more ideas if you are passionate about certain concepts! [sg-syndra]

So the idea was kinda like after casting his e he gets the chance to recast e as a dash in different direction. If it is used, then he would be punished with long e cooldown.

I've been playing more Xerath and I think you are right. It would be too strong even though he is punished. Although there are so many assassins that can jump on you, just gotta take it into account and play extra safe. I agree he would need damage nerfs to compensate for this and that would take a lot of fun out of him. The best part about xerath is half healthing squishies with q from ages away.

Thanks for your response, made me think. I posted without too much experience on the champ but have come to understand it would either make him too op or the required damage nerfs would make him not do his job anymore.

Sorry for late response btw, didn't see this.
