What are you building on him might I ask?

He's actually quite strong if you build tanky with two damage items.

My preferences are Botrk and DD for damage.

do you play him as jungler or on toplane?

in the jungle, go for the dps : Bloodrazor, Hydra, Botrk. dead mans plate, spiritvisage and any sort of boots that fit the game (berserker, ninja tabi even cdr boots, merkurys..) atleast it helps me out. even played bloodrazor+Rageblade was kinda fun.

I don't like jungle Aatrox, he brings a lot to the table as a top but as a jungler he's outscaled and doesn't perform up to snuff in the early game either.
