Aatrox feels legitimately awful to play in lane now.

Gotta say, there’s no better feeling than trying to clear a wave with your q and seeing each swing do 40-70 damage to a caster minion.

Or going to clear minions at your tower/base if you’re behind and not even bringing them to half health.

I get it. People in solo queue hate laning against aatrox because he’s a giant lane bully. Pros don’t like aatrox because he’s “blind pickable” to their limited champion select. Riot certainly hates the champion, as evidenced by his continual nerf after nerf. But was the solution to all of this really to turn his giant awesome sword into a metal wet noodle?

I dunno why everything except Riots Poster Childs get killed off. Sej being picked a lot in LCS? Gut her. Galio being picked? Gut her. Aatrox being picked? Rework him twice, nerf him to the ground and let him rot 'because blind pickable'.

And now Kai'Sa, can be played into everything, in every meta ever since launch, is even labeled by pros and everyone as overloaded but hey, she sells Skins. Probably another one coming soon...god I wish Aatrox was a hot chick sometimes..

Heaven forbid a manaless TDPS can't press a single button and clear an indefinite amount of minions instantly. He still does all of his broken garbage against champions. He'll be fine.

He's literally ONLY being nerfed because professional crybabies are complaining. They get bans too, don't they?

Power Cosmic9/13/2019, 2:30:07 PM5 votes

He is one buff away from being omnipresent once again, if he does not get reverted first.

People hate laning against a champ who's early isn't that great when compared to others of that lane? Shocking.

I understood the necessity to limit his E mobility, because no juggernaut should be able to be that mobile, but then they proceeded with removing the revive from World Ender and gutting his sustain and damage until his wave clear was just weak. But again the same nerf parade happened with Mordekaiser, because people still seem not to understand, that Juggernauts were always about huge damage with tankiness and sustain with bad mobility and limited engage opportunities.

But then again, I presume it was bound to happen, when you rework a Diver champion into a Juggernaut. The issue is that Aatrox kept part of his old Diver self, but became a Juggernaut. It's really something, which is hard to balance and will be problematic in gameplay. I personally liked the old Aatrox more, when he had multiple build paths and had a toggle on his W, so he could decide when he wanted to deal more damage or have better sustain.

As for pro play: Does anyone actually care about pro play? I mean... I found them really disappointing. I thought professionals play much more complicated champions, like Aurelion Sol, Kindred, Ivern, Kalista, Bard, Anivia etc. (champs you barely see in solo queue), yet they seem to cry about champions, which at first glance seem to be low elo pubstompers.

Looks like Aatrox is going to need Minion Dematerialiser and Tiamat to waveclear.

Malix Farwin9/14/2019, 1:46:09 AM3 votes

Thank pro play for it. Yuumi is getting a hard nerf again because it when she is sitting at 43% WR and has been for several weeks now.

riot do this thing where if a champion has a problem area they nerf everything around it, and then when the champ still doesn't go away (because items carry all those pointless nerfs anyway) they finally decide to nerf the problem area. ofc, sorry not sorry, you ain't getting all that lost power back. and yes rito will overdo it on the final nerf because "rito logic" his sustain on minions should have been cut down to 50% at most, maybe 75% to start, but oh well rito gonna give you the deep dick treatment and make it 25%. do you still have a champion tho, who knows.

He feels AWFUL to play. A full build aatrox needs 2 qs to just clear the casters. And lets not mention all the other nerfs he got since 9.9

Wen2949/13/2019, 5:47:35 PM2 votes

tfw a melee minion is tankier than a champion. Feels so fucking bad.

Maybe these are the changes for aatrox, but he did suck to fight against pre nerf. And not in the way such as fighting a jayce, or a kennen, or another juggernaut or even someone like jax or irelia. He just sucked to fight against period. You couldn't fight him 1v1, it was hard to keep up in waveclear, hard to finish him off even if you did out duel him, You couldn't poke him out of lane, or even safely farm under tower. Basically, if you were even with him in CS, kills, and xp you were actually way behind, and if he had even one kill, it was lane over (Barring jungle assistance of course). The problem is that most lane bullies don't share ALL of the problems at once. A jayce? you generally can play safely under tower using minion blockage properly, and you could either potentially outsustain him or all in him. A renekton? He might be able to dive you, but only if you're way low, but otherwise he can't really constantly poke you under tower with no consequence. Etc.

I think they should have nerfed his minion healing without hurting his waveclear though. Heck, they could even ramp up his healing vs minions at certain levels. The problem is that he has neither mana costs nor can you poke him out (sure vlad is that way too, but vlad has at least hp costs and isn't that strong during lane, aka, he's super easy to dive).

Basically, if you don't nerf his sustain, you'd have to nerf something like his ability to cast E during his Q, and I don't think aatrox players would appreciate that at all. But the dude needed some kind of lane nerf. All lane bullies need at least one true weakness afterall.

He was crazy before. Even if you had wave clear he would push you into the turret and no poke would stick. It was very unhealthy.

jocomotion9/14/2019, 1:14:48 AM2 votes

See I’m split, I’m glad his sustain when alone in lane was finally hit, because trading with him felt awful since he’d heal back up so fast, but he had been nerfed in so many other ways to finally get to this point that he’s awful.

Maybe if Riot reverts his older nerfs he’d be in a better spot.

RadeticDraws9/13/2019, 5:41:03 PM2 votes

It's all good tho cuz Riven is getting buffed cuz she was overnerfed Literal unplayable champion

Srsly Aatrox was in a good place after so much time and just get's killed in one patch

Why?

SiG DxD9/13/2019, 4:46:43 PM1 votes

yes the rework sucked so hard that i wish he was never reworked

1 patch buff 3 nerf 1 buff 4 nerf

so was the reworked aatrox

either garbage few patches or pick ban in pro

KFCeytron9/14/2019, 8:49:15 AM1 votes

Wait a month and he'll be completely different again when Riot continues their experimentation with him.

EATARI9/13/2019, 7:31:52 PM1 votes

Honestly, the reduced lane sustain on his passive is the part that really gets me. At least your autos can kill minions because you build AD.

Asherenyx9/14/2019, 2:11:52 AM1 votes

Aatrox Corki Galio Irelia Karma Ornn Qiyana RekSai Ryze Sejuani Sylas TahmKench Varus Yuumi Akali Kalista

Sometimes it's just too hard to balance the pro pool without changing the entire meta, but if they change the entire meta then the scrims in pro are wasted and invalidated. The struggle to accommodate the meta over the season versus the meta that needs to be changed is central to how they view the playing field.
