I feel useless to my team every game

UnknownDestrayon··1 votes·1,499 views

I am getting really tired of the fact I can't do anything in game and getting 6 losses in a row before getting 1 win. I try to analyse and study my games, I watch YouTube guides more than I actually play League of Legends; because of the fact I lose so often, it's hard to play more than 1 or 2 games a day on League of Legends. What can I do to be a more reliable carry? It makes me frustrated that I am so useless to my team all of the time!

What role / champs do you usually play?

UnknownDestrayon1 votes

I play Top and Jungle.

I understand that you are a Riven player but idk a lot about Riv so I am going to give you the advice I would give a new player trying to learn the role and running into the same issue.

Play stuff like Malphite, Maokai, Gnar if you want something a bit more mechanical.

Riven isn't a good teamfighter in comparison to most top laners and tanks will help the team a lot more.

Well I've been playing since the end of season 3, and so I have played a lot of champions, I have about 90 or something champions owned. But everytime I play champions like Malphite, Maokai, and Gnar, I have the tendency to do good in lane but then get ganked, camped, or counterpicked, and especially late game where I get kited to oblivion or just one shotted even with tank items. I just wish that I could at least play viable top champions averagely, but it just doesn't work very well for me. If this makes the difference, july I carried myself out of bronze V to Silver IV and just got demoted back to Silver V.

Sounds like you are on a losing streak. Do one of the following things depending on what fits you the most:

Fuck around in ARAM with a randomized build.

Fuck around in normals playing something silly (with team permission)

Play normals with some friends and goof off.

Take a break from League and do something you like.

Go play Galio adc or something. Fuck it.

UnknownDestrayon1 votes

ARAM for some reason tilts me I don't know why.

I play so competitively that I need to probably be retaught how to fuck around in League without getting mad for losing lol.

I probably need to find some new friends since the friends I have never want to play with me.

Do you have any recommendations to some games that can be addictive but not too competitive? I can't find anything I really like.

I probably need to get Galio then.

Hmmm. How about some old game you used to play when you were younger? Pokemon is something I still revisit on occasion just for a breath of fresh air.

UnknownDestrayon1 votes

I did somewhat, but they're just really boring to play by myself, since I hate doing everything by myself.

What role are you playing? I've found it easiest to have a large impact on my team by learning how to jungle pretty well.

Top and Jungle

You can stop playing riven and pick a less mechanically inclined champion.

UnknownDestrayon1 votes

I feel like Riven is the only champion that I can actually play that doesn't often make me negative in games. But maybe if I can find another champion I actually like.

Hm... Riven is a really heavy snowball champ. If you're not snowballing, you're not winning. I'm a meh Riven and tbh she has more tough matchups than people lead on to believe. Anyone with a decent understand of Riven mechanics can outright beat any DECENT Riven player on just about any champ.

You can join a few co-op vs AI matches and try out a few champs. You should also stick to 3 champs like a lot of people say (I don't follow this rule because I'm alpha af -- kappa (also why I'm stuck in gold 1).

Champs I think are really good tanks and still deal tons of damage:

Trundle: This can be your go to pick for ANY melee matchups. Trundle just outright takes out all melee and tanks, and is quite tanky himself. I'd say this would be a good go to champ to learn

Gnar: I would love to suggest Gnar to you as a really safe top laner that deals damage and has a lot of team utility. I loved the champ before he even became meta, but right now, considering he's meta expect him to be picked often and get ready for some nerfs (I'll suggest another one, this one is an iffy suggestion, you might actually want to stay away from it)

Maokai: A really safe pick, great farm potential, awesome teamfight potential, great damage, easy to use kit. This guy is just great, you get a handle on him and your lane will be a junglers paradise. You could legit just push top straight to the inhib with your junglers help and they won't be able to do anything to stop you (from my experience in silver -- been there a year -- people really don't know how to handle tanks). I'd say Mao is a really strong pick

And a really good Niche pick to learn and my all time favorite for those pesky meta champs:

Pantheon: This guy just demolishes just about every meta top laner, just, whatever you do, don't pick him into juggernauts or ranged champs. He has an amazing early game and if you can learn to abuse his early game, you pretty much just force ff's all around. Really good person to learn for those pesky riven/yasuo players

And Malphite will be my last suggestion for the top lane. I know, I know, most of these guys are tanks and you want to do damage. However, all of them are powerful and have a lot of impact. Trundle is great for splitpushing, Malphite/Mao is great if you feel like you actually have a time that can teamfight well. They all fit great into their own niche comps and learning all of them will give you enough champs to body top lane however you see fit.

As for jungle, I can't help you out there. I still struggle there myself. I'd say, stick with junglers that scale well into late game, bring team utility and do NOT require snowballing (Lee, Kha, Elise, Rengar) < I get tilted every game when I see one of those junglers. I'm normally scared they won't perform well, but I do suggest you learn ONE of them so if you're last pick and the other team decides to go a full team of squishies? Boy, I sure love me some Rengar in those comps. Free kills, free stacks, free win.

UnknownDestrayon1 votes

I had no success with any of the champions in the past, especially quite recently trundle when he was free. But I guess I can try them again.

Brain Errör 4041 votes

Well it's going to take some time and effort to actually learn and get use to what the champions can and can't do. You've played riven a fair bit and I'm sure the first 20-40 games were hell for you because you didn't actually know what you were doing. It's a progression thing, the more you play, the more time you put in the better you'll get.

UnknownDestrayon1 votes

Yeah but I've been playing League for quite a long time now, I've played all of those champions besides Trundle around 70 times. But like I said, I will be willing to try them again.

according to your match history it shows you play only high damge carries, Fiora Shaco Riven Yasuo and when you play champs that typically have nothing to offer but one thing be it damage, cc, tank ect then you become easy to defend against. champs that have more versatility who can provide damage, and cc and mobility or some def stats ect are harder to play /build against. dont get me wrong damage is important, but having more then one play path to champs is ideal

UnknownDestrayon1 votes

The main reason for my match history is because of the fact that I tried something new from tanks and bruisers to high damage and it had been working for me thus far, besides the fact it isn't really working anymore.

also you get a good amount of kills but the game is more then 1 vs 1 someone and killing them . its an objective based game. focus on objectives. kills allow you to get an advantage to be able to force objectives but you can as a team have less kills and win having more objectives.

take your riven last rank game where you went 11-6-7 your team managed two turrets, no drags, no barons when the enemy team had 2 drags and 11 turrets . you team comp as a whole is trash, no cc, no tank. kled went full damage from jungle .

Ahri Soraka Kled MissFortune Riven

vs Varus Taric Veigar Shaco DrMundo

who on your team is cc and peeling for carries?

raka does nothing but heal , kled is full damage, mf has no cc, ahri dont, and riven dont. no tank either.

this is just looking at game stats with out watching the game

I get what you mean. I don't very often go for kills unless I'm trying to snowball early game, or duel someone to try to split-push. I've been trying as hard as I can to learn how to split-push effectively, but no matter how much I try to, the enemy team can push and split-push way better than I can, and then I die really quickly even from saving my abilities to escape. It's been a really tough time trying to learn how to split-push.

cant split push with out having champs that do good at that. and split push isnt always the best thing to do. everything in league is situational. from champs, masteries, runes, items. strategy ect. failure to adapt pigeon holds you and you can only win if a certain game scenario lines up in your favor of what you are good at

UnknownDestrayon1 votes

Well I main riven for instance, her main job is to split-push, since of how bad her teamfighting is. But I do play situationally, building my items depending on the circumstance and teamfighting when I need to, and attempt to split push if the enemy team is pushing or taking a dragon where we can't contest. It just hasn't been working since I get counter pick tops, I don't snowball and can't duel anyone besides the adc if they're alone. And sometimes I can't even duel the adc. Maybe I'm just not doing things correctly.

no riven is a good team fighter you cant be the one to engage the fight though, she is best played like an assassin in team fights , i think her split push is kinda bland compared to other champs, she cant use abilities on turrets or have any attack speed steroids other then flash you dont have a reliable escape.

UnknownDestrayon1 votes

I agree that Riven is a good team fighter if someone else engages and soaks, it just doesn't happen very often, and my team expects someone else to engage, and vice versa for me. So no one would be right in that situation. And she one of the best escapes in game. I've been able to escape tough situations with the abilities I have that would be impossible otherwise. For instance her EW combo stuns people quite effectively, after the first Q her Q starts going on cooldown, so you can save your second and third q for when you need it. 90% of the time I only die when trying to escape is when I'm trying to make an outplay I shouldn't be.

UnknownDestrayon1 votes

Also with Riven the only thing you can do besides flash on a carry in a teamfight, is protect your carry. So I do a lot of that.

no as riven you should never be the peel to protect the carry other then the fact that your riven and is a threat is the only protection you provide. you are a damage melee carry. you provide nothing for tank, protection or peel

UnknownDestrayon1 votes

What I've learned from watching Riven Streams, you can peel for the adc with your W, block skill shots with E, and try to kill the threat as fast as possible with ult combo, and the adc damage. Riven can situationally be a peeler if she is needed two. What I've learned is that Riven has two stances, do damage as fast as possible, or be the initial CC.

A lot of people are recommending Malphite, I may play him again for a little bit.
