Luxanna - A Slight Buff

Sorry Team·1/21/2018, 4:49:01 PM·4 votes·621 views

With the recent change to how patching is done with more focus on slight nerfs and buffs, I would like to bring attention to everyones favorite light mage, Lux Luxanna. Luxanna is in a bit of a rough spot right now, her playrate is higher in support (51%) than mid (49%) and in higher elos it is even more drastic to the point of her never being picked mid anymore and considered trolling if you do, while she also holds the stigma of the "useless support who buys dorans first item" when picked support in lower elos. Basically there is no winning your teams favor when picking her, no matter the role.

I have an idea of a small buff that would not change her core gameplay or play style, while bringing focus back to her original designated role, mid lane burst mage. Her current biggest problems are:

  1. Luxanna can not clear the mage minions with a single E and requires you to hit each minion individually with an AA to proc your passive on them for the kill.
  2. She basically doesn't have a passive once late game starts, since getting into AA range in a hectic teamfight means death for her.

The way to fix both of these issues is to allow her [W] - Prismatic Barrier to proc her passive when passing through enemies. This would allow her to farm like every other mid laner by throwing out E - W at a minion wave (which would still require more mana to clear than most other mages who can burst the minion backline) and let her use her passive late game by throwing out W mid her Q E R combo to proc her passive two more times.

Please discuss, and remember, stay positive~!

Part of the point of Lux's passive is that, in order to access that damage, she has to get in range of her opponent.

Lots of long range poke mages have very similar passives (Xerath, Zoe, and Ziggs all have auto attack passives as well).

If you let Lux proc her passive from long range, you're defeating the whole purpose of the passive, which is to force Lux into range of her opponent.

IMO, wave clear is pretty out of control in mid right now. Rather than giving literally every single mid an easy way to wipe out minions, I'd actually rather see them nerf wave clear on some mages. Being able to 1 hit entire waves of minions shouldn't be a requirement of every champion who wants to go mid. It should be a unique strength and a trade-off.

For instance, I'd rather Zoe not be able to 1 hit caster minions at level 5 with her incredibly low cooldown, low mana cost Q. I'd rather vlad not be able to AFK force me under tower by spamming resourceless abilities. I'd prefer be able to actually interact with Malzahar, rather than being forced to spam all my cooldowns just try to keep up with his push. Etc.

There are champions who actually need very strong wave clear in order to function: Asol, Taliyah, Talon, since roaming is baked into their kits. There are also champions for whom wave clear feels like an important, thematic strength: Heimer and Ziggs, since so much of their kit revolves around siege and defense. But these strengths feel kind of watered down when literally ever mid is one hitting casters at level 5-7.

what about E increasing its damage depending on how long its tay before you explode it

Some champs have passives that are good early, rather than later. It's like saying Orianna doesn't have a passive come late game...but the point of her passive is her early game harass and cs.

Regardless, wouldn't making her W proc her passive make her W kind of overloaded?

I am a One Trick Lux and She don't need a buff at all she Perfectly fine, you just probably playing her wrong, Her Passive is the Key to her DMG if you can Auto and Quickly cast E you will Prox her Passive same for Q it depends how you play her, You cant just sit there just Throwing E and that's it Here a Quick way to get a kill maybe. Q Auto E (Dont hit it again) Ult and quick E again. I am Sliver V but been playing League since Season 4 and check out my Stats on Lux on Op.gg Bitception

.. Or just increase her E damage towards minions. The buff you suggest would imho completely break her: An E-R-W would basically one shot the entire backline and halfing the frontline.. Either %damage increase on minions or a little splash effect on illumination proc so an E + auto will kill the caster wave without having to autoattack 3 times.. (and if she wants the extra damage in a teamfight she still needs to come close)

while its certainly an interesting idea, i think a better buff would be to let her control how far it goes out that way if she needs a higher shield for a shorter period of time she can cast it at close range, wehre as if she wants to do it how it normally is she just puts the cursor at or beyond the range it goes now.

i also feel like your change would be a sort of noob trap. quite frequnestly when i play lux support i do get people who think the stereotypical this lux is just ganna build full ap and not support. and i feel like with your change. her shield would be used to KS minions as support and not to protect thier adc.

No, lux just deals bonus % damage on minions mechanic on her E, thats it.

Lux was my first ever main, and my second main champion. I started playing her support. Honestly, focusing as an adc main, i hate lux support. I feel she is much better mid. Procing her passive can be a pain. However if you have a decent match up, that isn't ie: Talon Katarina Zed Azir FizzVelkoz Ziggs , she shouldn't have an issue procing her passive in lane. With that buff to her ult, i feel she is in a decent spot. She's got fairly decent winrates in all elos. I'd rather see lux mid of course, rather than support.

lux passive is a whole spell of damage late game (each time you activate it) you not wanting to risk its activation does not mean she doesnt have a passive late game, other people who know its value will take the risk to activate it assuming any one survives more than half her combo which would have to be a dedicated 6 item tank with more than 3 non boots items dedicated to magic resist which means they are squishier to crits than mages even with 2 armor item.

"while she also holds the stigma of the "useless support who buys dorans first item" when picked support in lower elos."

I giggled

This really isn't the buff that Lux needs.

Her weakness is related to her base stats and feast and famine nature.

Adjust those first before suggesting kit wide changes.
