Why is there no option to wait longer for the role you want?

First time posting so I'm not sure if this is the exact right place to post this but here goes. My concern with the game is why is there no option to wait longer for the role we want as a player? Specifically in ranked when you get autofilled and nobody wants to switch with you so you're stuck on a role you barely ever play. I understand the mechanic of having faster queues by maybe having someone autofill, but, why? Can't there be an option to purposelly wait longer than usual to get the specific roles you want? Personally I don't mind waiting an extra 3-8 mins if it guarantees the role I want? Any thoughts?

Because that 3-8 minutes you're waiting wouldn't just be for you, but also the nine other people trying to get into that game. Autofilling people speeds up queue times for everybody, not just the people getting filled.

What Riot needs to do is hurry up with autofill parity (causing both teams to have the same number of autofilled players, preferably in the same roles), and implement a quest system that rewards players for learning every role.

Similar to how event quests work, these "role quests" would be a tree of quests for each lane that give you rewards for completing them, like BE, exclusive icons/emoteslwards, chests/keys, and champion/skin shards for that lane.

This would incentivize players to play a few games in every role, with the quest requirements rewarding good gameplay. The end result would be that getting autofilled would be much less painful for everybody involved; it would only be an inconvenience, rather than game-throwing.

If it were 3-8 minutes, there probably wouldn't be a need for autofill. If you play a more popular role, the wait would probably be more like 30-80 minutes.

The reason autofill is needed is that there are not enough players in certain roles...I doubt there are many people that want to be autofilled into a game.

Making it an option means there are less people available to place in the needed roles, so the waits go up for everyone - not just the people that opt out. In addition, anyone that doesn't opt out will get autofilled more often than now so that if you want to actually play your main role, you will have to turn off autofill.

The solution to autofill is just to learn every role on at least 2-3 champions; its not that hard. Tyler1 is one of the best junglers in NA now, despite being known as an ADC player for like 8 years. Your role hardly matters after like 12 minutes anyway

Would matchmaking automatically prioritize anyone who comes into the queue without having that flag checked? In other words, if you queue up for Mid Only, and 10 players queue up right after you for Mid Preferred, do you fall to the back of the line until those players are matched?

Otherwise, why wouldn't every just check that box, putting everyone right back where they started?
