Issues I noticed for new players
I have recently convinced two friends of mine recently start playing League and while I watched and played with them I began to realize how bad the experience is for a new player as they try to level up (And no I wasn't playing with them on my account). I have been playing since beta so i understand that some of this is holdovers from the early years when Riot was still trying to figure things out but I feel that these things should have been revamped a long time ago as they make the game frustrating just plain unfair for very little or no particular reason. So I'm wondering why these things are structured or organized in certain ways for new players. I'll list off the issues I have noticed and would like feedback on why these things are the way they are.
TL:DR: 1. Why are certain summoner spells especially Flash, because how often do you use anything else, locked until you reach a certain summoner level? 2. Why are Tier 1 and 2 runes still a thing? 3. Why is there not a general Rune page that gives health, armor, magic resist, and CDR. 4. Why isn't there an in game jungle tutorial? (I'm talking more about jungle camps and paths not necessarily ganking because that's a complicated issue that has a lot of factors and I understand the magnitude of trying to encompass the magnitude of that)
I should also state that I also understand things like how much IP you gain for a match and how much champions cost and other similar factors are to encourage players to pay for Riot Points (RP) and this is how Riot makes their money and while I may have issues with certain practices that Riot has regarding these
- Locked summoner spells
Why are different summoner spells locked and decided the order to unlock them in the first place. Flash
, literally the most used summoner spell is locked until level 10. This makes no sense to me as your leveling up you are going to go against people of different levels and when someone has flash and you don't leaves you at a significant disadvantage. Also not being able to gain access to offensive spells such as Ignite
and Exhaust
is also a disadvantage not having access to these isn't as debilitating as having flash.
That being said while I don't agree with locking Smite
at level 10 I understand the logic behind it. I understand that letting new players take it and try to use it without having any understanding of how it works or how it's commonly used, especially without knowing how the jungle works, I still don't believe that this justifies denying new players access to critical summoner spells that everyone uses so they can practice and get use to them.

Runes system I like the concept of the rune system. I like being able to tweak different stats depending on what champion I'm playing in order to get certain advantages at the expense of other stats to really tweak my play style is a good mechanic. I feel how it has been implemented is terrible experience for new players. Tier 1 and Tier 2 runes, while are very cheap, are a trap that lures new players into wasting their hard earned IP on things that you are going to get rid of anyway. I believe Riot should allow players to upgrade these runes to the next Tier with the cost of the lower Tier rune cost subtracted. This would allow new players who already have very little IP incrementally improve their runes as they buy them so they don't feel like they are wasting their IP on the lesser Tier Runes when they get to higher levels.

A general Rune page As I watched my friends level up I began to wonder why there wasn't a general use Rune page that everyone started with. In addition to the two rune pages that you start with why isn't there a starter rune page that is completely filled and unchangeable and just has some generally useful stats like health, armor, magic resist, and CDR. Just general stats that would be useful, though not necessarily ideal, to every champion (That way your not stuck with AP on Vayne
or something like that). I feel while this wouldn't be ideal for every champion it would certainly take the some of the bite out of going against other players who are much higher level and have completed rune pages. -
Why isn't there a tutorial for how to jungle in game? As a jungler I understand that there are a lot of variables when jungling such as where to start, what leashing is, how to gank, when to gank and countless other things. I think Riot should have a small tutorial on how to clear the jungle with Warwick or something like that. After watching my friends play their first games it was clear no one in the game knew or understood what to do with or what the benefits were of the neutral monster camps. The battle training was a very good step towards helping new players understand the basic mechanics of game, it only briefly mentions the different jungle camps has you kill them and gives a very brief description of what they do. I believe that their should be a tutorial of how the jungle camps work and the benefits of different jungle buff such as blue, red, and dragon. While I understand that the jungle is a complicated concept at first for new players and the difficulties of trying to describe certain aspects of it to them I believe that is possible to at least give a in game hands on tutorial of some of the aspects of jungling.
I realize this was a long post and apologize for the long read. Also if there are any typos or grammatical errors I apologize. I rewrote certain areas and they are probably things that I missed when I made my changes let me know. Also I should be here to answer questions if I wrote super poorly. Thanks for the feedback in advance.
Don't need flash... I played them the other night.. Sure I lost (I was soo fed though) but I found myself to be JUKE CUTY with my Q... not even flash could keep up with that... xD kindred don't really need flash if you play themright..
and im excited for his changes.. and I may give him more of a chance.. Probably find a way to put my own mobility into him.
