How to even Pick a Main

Hey, all.

I took a break during season 8. I never seemed to be able to climb higher than gold - and even then, just barely. Since starting up again a few days ago, I've begun the process of heavily studying up on macro and general gameplay things.

However, I have... a rather glaring issue. The one problem I've always faced with League is trying to stick to just one or two champions. I feel like constantly switching roles and champions is preventing me from getting better at any one of them, so I'm trying to seriously narrow down the champ pool to about two.

I've performed best as ADC in the past, particularly using Jinx, Twitch, and occasionally Ezreal, but I always end up wanting to play Jungle again. Fiddlesticks jungle is how I started the game, but sadly, is... not a particularly viable option to climb and learn in the current state of the game. So, I beseech the Boards (which I've never used before) for some advice. League's always been the one game I can come back to time and time again, so I really want to be able to sit down and improve noticeably with more focus.

All things considered, I'm heavily split between maining ADC or Jungle. I prefer teamfight-y champions (hence, you know, ADC) and the ability to influence the outcome of fights. Basically, I want to be able to learn how to carry harder with an ADC or Jungle champ or two. I don't like heavy CC tanks for that reason.

Any advice would be appreciated. I've entertained the thought of maining Lucian, but he doesn't seem to be in the greatest spot either.

Cheers, all. See you on the Rift.

You decide what you want to do in the game which you've done already.

Find champs that do that the best. You want to play jungle or adc. I strongly recommend jungle over adc but it's up to you. You want to teamfight and macro play.

Find out who the BEST junglers are that fit your criteria for teamfighting. Same goes for adc. Pick one champ and play only them. If you get bored keep playing that champ.

I get bored playing trynd all the time. Once you form the habbit of picking them it will get easier to just play them.

After you have your champ I strongly recommend finding a challenger and only a challenger no exceptions, that one tricks or at least plays that champ and watch and learn from them.

What would you say are the top three or four teamfight/carry junglers? Tier lists are tier lists, but the issue with picking a main is picking something that isn't perma-banned.

I heard Hecarim is really good right now for jungle. I don't know what's in the meta right now besides that.

Meta for jg right now is rengar (SOOOO OP) kha'zix, hecarim, and yi (broken).

Play what you want to play. Don't let anything other than what you wanna play determine who you main.

I started maining Yorick for one reason and one reason only, I liked Yorick. Had nothing to do with his win rate, play rate, whether or not he was meta, if he was strong, w.e, I just played him and liked him.

Thing is, you play with a champ long enough, you'll climb with it no matter who it is. I'm fairly certain there's a main for every champion in masters+ right now specifically for NA and if not, then definitely global.

Hell years after his rework I'm still finding new ways to play matchups, new ways to build, new macro strats, etc.

So find a champion you enjoy playing, and play it nonstop. Picking them (or wanting to pick them) will become second nature eventually.

Small caveat here though, if you play ADC, you might not find success every season by sticking to a singular main since it's a heavily homogenized role (whoever has stronger right clicks wins) so you might be forced off some seasons. Not true for all ADCs, only the ones that are over-reliant on right click power. If you play something like Ezreal you're good for life.

For how much you play yorick you dont seem very consistent with him you either go even or hard int and rarely have a really good kda

Eh new account. RIP old one (was a bot account originally).

Yeah Yorick, due to the nature of being a stat reliant melee juggernaut with inefficient ranged cs tools and only moderate sustain, doesn't do so well when forced into a disadvantage via lane bully + early game jungler constant harass.

That said, every other game (the ones where I have less kills than deaths but not that many deaths) are just normal Yorick gameplay. Dying for objectives, dying for teammates, dying for macro plays, etc.

Yorick can potentially 1v2. But if he can't or he can't 1v3+, he isn't getting away most of the time. Splitting is typically a death sentence because of this but at the same time it draws multiple enemies to you letting your team take advantage of the situation on the other side of the map for things like dragon/baron. I usually do this at least once or twice a game in games where my team isn't strictly ahead.

The games where I have a high KDA are mostly coinflip victories where my bot lane won so I just built tank-ish and played frontline for teamfights. But yeah the average KDA for a Yorick is typically just under 2.00.

Edit: Current stats for Yorick in Masters+ globally Kills 3.38 Deaths: 4.02 Assists: 4.06

KDA: 1.82

I know it doesn't look like a good KDA, but mine is actually way above average right now (2.48).

Basically, have a handful of champions for each role. If you force it, it wont work out. Some days I feel like playing thresh and I stomp. When I force it, I fall on my face. So play whatever you feel like that you know you can do good in.

Macro will do the rest. Macro is what counts really. You can be the most gifted riven player ever, but if you have no macro it won't matter.
