Nocturne visual/story update? (Too Long; Don't Read)

I understand there are several other champions that are more popular in need of some updates. However, the popular champions already get a greater portion of the love. I get this, even as someone who literally only plays Nocturne I can admit there are champions with better kits and champions with worse kits who need attention.

Nocturne however feels like the red-headed step child of the days of old.

His kit I feel is balanced, I agreed with Riot Meddler when he said that his power is A-OK, his ult is super cool and fits his theme quite well. Nocturne is just a little bit behind when it comes to team fights.

For example: What if for the sake of team fighting, when Nocturne uses his ultimate on a champion as he is depicted "Launching/Flying/Ghosting" to the target after blacking out the sun, what if there was an added effect radius for the targeted champion as well as enemy champs close by to be slowed/feared for 1-2 seconds by his arrival, but limiting DAMAGE to only the targeted enemy champ?

Aside from that, any focus placed on Nocturne in my opinion should be visuals and his story.

Compared to his splash art (common complaint among Nocturne mains) his in game appearance /can/ be...very underwhelming. The Eternum and Frozen Terror skins are (My opinion) his best depictions in game, with his default skin being something I shy away from.

No one should want to shy away from Nocturne's default visage. He is DARKNESS and NIGHTMARES incarnate, swirling, smoky goodness.

He just...looks like he missed leg day. (But Lieutenant Dan, Nocturne ain't got no legs!)

Humor intended, but he looks more like a "Foot" (No more Nocturne/Leg jokes.) soldier to Zed's "Shredder" instead of being the big bad shadow daddy he should be.

The Netflix series "Stranger Things" did an amazing job portraying how nightmarish shadows/darkness given form can be, and I think with just a little bit of work, Nocturne can bring terror to unsuspecting lanes even more than he does now.

In addition to this, I feel like Nocturne is an untapped resource for more world building.

Perhaps the reason Nocturne loathes mages (In addition to their ability to possibly bind/control him) could be that he was once a mage himself, human, and used dark magic to become the first "Dreamwalker" to traverse the inner minds of his fellow mages to gain their secrets and poison their minds. Nocturne could've once had a more humanoid spirit form as he traveled through the dreams and nightmares of others, but over time lost all sense of himself and now brings terror and despair to slumbering mages in order to feed on their mana fueled fear.

Imagine, a visual upgrade + the revamping of his story like this will give us the Nocturne that some of his mains have dreamed of for a long time now.

We could even get a new skin, reminding us of his human heritage.

(Did not create this image, could not find out who did, but it's a classic.)

TL;DR?

  • Nocturne needs a visual update
  • Kit should be left alone unless area of fear/slow is added to ult impact
  • Story is untapped resource for awesome world building
  • I'm an idiot, feel free to insult anything I've typed up with/without reading
  • Human Nocturne
  • Morgana, grab my legs!

God no, I'm sick and tired of the lore team reworking non-human champions into "he was once an ordinary man, and then..."

We need more champions that are utterly beyond human comprehension, creatures from the outer dark, who are not bound by petty human concerns like idealism or sadism or revenge, otherwise the world begins to feel a little too small.

Haha, I could totally agree with you. One of the reasons I had shied away from including other champions in my hypothetical story line there is that I don't know the story of every champion, maybe 3 total? When I started LoL in 2012, I chose Nocturne.

Aside from singular attempts at branching out to Warwick and Shyvana in my early days, I stuck with Nocturne and I truly only play him. Out of 3130 or so games, 3128 would be as Nocturne.

You're more of an expert on the human element that Riot is giving their other worldly champs than I am.

I mostly worded it that way because I'd love to see the hilarious Human Nocturne skin, even only as an April Fools joke.

I appreciate you defending his inhumanity where I failed.

How do you feel about Nocturne as a champ kit/visual/otherwise?

delet this

I would, but I'm tired of hiding my idiocy and my need to share my ideas in half baked posts that I clearly needed to spend more time on.

If I was a real hero, I'd follow through with your request in order to spare those more knowledgeable than I the loss of brain cells.

I'm selfish.

definitely needs a visual update. definitely needs some kind of way to survive/be useful in team fights. maybe needs a new resource system. Maybe make his dusktrail give him the same invisibility Akali has.

I do like the thought, but it might create some unbalanced game play.

While launching towards an enemy you're able to cast any of Nocturne's spells, generally I use his Q & W before impact to land said dusk trail and spell shield my way out of an initial counter attack.

Decent build, runes, and R-Q-W gives Nocturne a lot of burst damage. If they gave the Dusk Trail the ability to make him invisible too, it would just be too much.

Maybe while casting or launching towards an enemy he could be invisible until impact is achieved in order to heighten the sense of fear/impending doom people feel when he ults?

A, "Where is he coming from, who is he going to hit?" kind of angle.

Nocturne is one of Cho'gaths Horcrux's

Nocturne is Kassadin A version of Kassadin that Rift walked into a different dimension. Kassadin is the anti mage, Nocturne hates mages.

The spooky boy is in the line up for a rework, there's just no telling when exactly. The Lux short story "For Demacia" actually centers around Noc-- they just elude to it being him rather than saying his name. That leads me to believe they already have some idea of what to do with him(he's mentioned to be a sort of demon). Never been to find of the idea of him being a human previously, like Crow said, it just feels too narrow.
