Championship ashe border unlock question (not getting skin)

I have just unlocked the championship ashe border/icon. However, I do not own the skin nor am i sure i will actually be getting the skin. My question is, if i do decide to get the skin, in the future, will the border still be unlocked for this skin? Thank you .
