Runaan's Hurricane.

Hopefully this is the correct section. Anyways, I know this is one of the most hated items around or everyone says it's pretty much next to useless and each is entitled to their own opinion. However, I like running attack speed stuff on my ADC and was wondering if there was anyway to make the hurricane effective. Usually what I see is Hurricane then a Bloodthirst then more damages from there. Yes I know that 'Shiv and Phantom are better than Hurricane but I'd just like to know of a way to make the Hurricane viable. I'm thinking more or less Hurricane, Shiv, then Phantom. That's high attack speed and farming but is going to lack the damages so do I need to rush Bloodthirst or an Infinity Edge after I get Hurricane as my first item? Thanks.

Look at it this way:

You have a base AD after runes and masteries and stuff of around 55-75. If you build a high AD item, like Infinite Edge or Bloodthirster, you're getting around 80AD on top of either critical chance and damage, or lifesteal. Either way, the AD alone is more than doubling your damage output (80 > 75). You then build attack speed and critical chance multipliers second (e.g. PD) which obviously multiplies your damage output by the multiples (so 50% AS increases your damage by 50%, 35% critical chance increases your damage by 35%). Runaan's as a second item here would increase your damage by 70% (it's AS multiple, unless it's higher on the rift than on ARAM [I've only built it on ARAMs]) which is less than +50% +35% from PD, however the extra shots passive could be useful for waveclear or teamfights I suppose. If it's your playstyle you're welcome to build it, just please do it second.

Look at what happens if you build it first: You have 55-75 AD, meaning your Runaan's gives +70% damage per second by the +70% AS. So it doesn't help you last hit at all, and only increases damage by 70% instead of by more than 100% by building AD. You'll have a serious disadvantage against the opposing ADC by rushing Runaan's over an AD item UNLESS you have an on-hit thing to help you. Even combining it with BotRK would help.

How to make Runaan's useful; use it on the champions who can afford to use it.

Kalista, Jinx and Kog'maw are all great with Runaan's. Twitch, Varus, Miss Fortune and Kayle can use it, although it's not the most optimal item and definitely not a rush item for them.

Oh, and Teemo, but he's another matter altogether.

Anyway, Runaan's is just an item that specifically works well on certain champions, and then it's pretty much crap otherwise.

The thing is, you want damage first unless you are playing kalista, AS without damage is not that useful and Runaans is pretty expensive for being a first item. And without the AD and Crits from IE you will lose plenty of one shot trades, its generally not worth it.

Everyone says its a great item on Kalista, But its not an item you should get on most AD carries.

It works with Kalista because the attack speed gives more jumps, and the multi hits gives more AoE damage for her E.

Others that can make it work are Twitch Varus because a huge part of their kit is applying an on hit effect. This applies it to more targets. But for them its not an early game item, its best to have 2-3 damage items to back it up before getting it.

2-3 damage items before it. Like what? I know Last Whisper is generally the 3rd or 4th item on ADC.

I just meant its NOT an item to make as your first or second purchase.

Old varsus was something like item 3006 item 3072 item 3031 item 3085 item 3035 item 3102 . You could also change for item 3046 and for item 3071 if youw ant to do full glass canon. I would say rush Infinity edge as first item since currently is better than bloodthisrst.
