New to player champ breakdown

I have a dream! That one day all noob players would get a champ breakdown the first time they play a champ that's new to them! Being a noob myself I've only been playing for maybe a year if I'm lucky. I find myself in situations to where I'm playing champions that I've never played before with the free champ rotation which is an awesome thing that I get to play them even though I don't have them unlocked! That being said, I end up having to rely on the in game shop to guide me on my champion build which isn't bad at all, but I also have to sit there and read the player abilities and passive as well which gives a great in depth explanation.

I personally think this game and community of players that are tired of noobs doing horrible with a champ they've never played could benefit from from a short video explaining how that player is meant to be played such as build, play style, strong situational points and weak situational points. Games like Evolve™ nail this on the head! When you play a character or monster for the first it gives a brief video during the loading screen with a short explanation of how the character works, strong points, weak points etc. Just a thought, wouldn't mind to hear what you guys think!

If you go to your champion list you can watch videos of, and read about, the champion's different abilities. I do agree that it could be a bit better though, especially in regards to where to play/how to build the champion.

I understand that is all there but what happens when you're a person who only owns 5 or so champions and you play your regular 5v5 and your champ gets taken and your stuck in the free rotation of champs which you potentially haven't played any of? Or ARAM and you randomly get assigned a champ that you haven't played?

I mean what happens if you go to get icecream and they are all out of the flavour you normally have? You try something new.

Knowledge can only be learned before hand if you put in the time to learn it before hand. Wanting to have better access to that is good, but you still have to put in time if you want to know about it before hand.

This is already a thing. They're called champion spotlights. You can look em up on youtube for any champion.

The champ spotlight video would work but what he is saying is for it to be in game. Just a nice little thing before you play the champ so you have some good info there. You shouldn't have to switch over to YouTube to do so.

This would def be a great thing for new players! Good idea Ricanwarcry11!

Some champions do not have spotlights. Also, old champions have been reworked but their spotlight has not been updated yet. For example, Ashe's spotlight says has her Q is a toggled slow.

I like this idea. You could easily have a link in the client TO the spotlight, like they do with the videos they play now. In game, it could be a small little box that simply says the strengths of a champion and their weaknesses. They ALREADY have that with team stats. I don't think a video would be a "safe" idea to employ, given how interactive the game is, and it might even be a coding nightmare.

But having an info box that gives you the basic strengths, weaknesses, and general play-style of a champ is more than possible.

Just link the champ spotlight under abilities or maybe even on the overview page. Or the confirm purchase dialog.

Do you honestly believe it's beneficial to have a spotlight playing on the screen, in the game? We're talking about giving this information to new players in a live match.

I've left a spotlight on behind the game so I could listen to it, but pulling up a spotlight in game seems too distracting and requires way more setup than the initial idea makes it seem.

No, I was talking about the information screens you can pull up in the client from collection > champions or from the store. mb

Often times, the players understand the champions better than Riot does, especially people that main said champions. You would better off looking up different guides and familiarizing yourself with their cooldowns/abilities. There's also that new sandbox mode that let's you practice any aspect of the champion you please and it's easy to use. Take advantage of that stuff. Part of what makes this a strategy game is preparing BEFORE you play.

Practice makes perfect, just like anything else.
