I find it a tad situational due to Swain's need to combat opponents in order to maintain a high enough impact when the game progresses. While you do have the Nevermove and passive, both rely on too many variables that can definitely fall on the wayside. With laning, it would be tough. Like if it was mage support not named Lux or Zyra vs Swain the most you could make the impact on lane with is even to ahead. It's those first 10-15 minutes of the game that make the pick harder. It's not ensured supportive capability like other off meta mage supports.

As long as it works. I suppose pretty much anything works in elo hell.

Almost anything can be played support. The best champions have at least two of the following: reliable CC (Swain) high base damages (Swain) good tankiness (Swain). utility - ally buffs (not Swain)

the assumption that bronze players aren't diamond-plat players playing on new unbanned accounts is a naïve assumption at best. Rank means nothing.

It's fun enough but works better when your adc has at least one hard cc.

i use swain as a jung buff stealer in the first few minutes and usually all i build is rod and adapt from there
