Tank Orianna works, and here's why!
Now when you first hear the phrase "Tank Orianna", I'm sure many of you guys just shake your heads at how bad that sounds. I will admit, the sound of it does sound pretty stupid...Atleast...it did until I actually tried it. I'm going to explain to you how and why Tank Orianna works.

Do you know why Ekko tank became a thing? 2 reasons, one was that his abilities scaled really well as a tank, and second was that he was a utility mage so being a tank allowed him to use all of his skills constantly cause he lived for longer. Orianna tank works for the same reason...well, mostly. Sadly, Orianna's abilities don't scale as well as full tank, so you do have to build some AP items in order to do dmg. However, you only really need 2 Items to do alot of dmg on Ori. When I build her tank, I always build Rod of Ages first, and Rylais sometime later. Those 2 Items, plus AP runes, give me enough ability power to still chunk a squishy target down to less than half health. Honestly though, Rod of Ages would be enough to still deal a decent amount of dmg to champs, while also being tanky as hell. I just personally like to build for a little more damage. Plus, the extra slow on Rylais makes it a really good tool.

What is the main thing your supposed to do in early game with Orianna? Play-safe, get farmed up, and make it to late game? Well, if that's the case, then I'm pretty sure Top lane would be the perfect spot for her! because that's what that lane pretty much always is. At the same time, you are much safer from ganks because you only have one side to worry about now instead of two. Top lane is a much safer lane for Ori to be played in. Given, there are champs that play super agro in top like Fiora/Riven/Gnar/Jax/etc...These champs are fairly difficult to deal with at the start of the game, but once you get your Rod of Ages built, they become really easy to deal with. Building tanky after that will only make it easier.

When TPing in on a lane that needs help, Ori is amazing at being of assistance. Because of her ult, she can disengage the enemy almost completely from who they're pursuing. I've had quite a number of times where I TPed in on a lane that needed help, and came out with a Double kill. I haven't been able to do that on any other Top Laner (Mainly cause I don't play Top much XD).
So anyway, these are 3 reasons why I find Tank Orianna to be really good. I've tried it, and it works super good for me! I honestly almost like it better then playing her mid. Lastly, I'm going to give you the build I go and why. Given, this build will be for a balanced enemy team comp. If an enemy is heavier on either AP or AD, I will build accordingly, so don't follow this for every fight
Items:
- Rod of Ages - This is a great first item to get on Ori top. The passive will let you stay in lane, and harass out your opponent constantly. The Health is nothing to sneeze at either.
- Frozen Heart - I'm sure you guessed I was gonna pick this item. The extra mana and CDR on this thing works really good with Ori. And if you're up against an AD tank, it will work really well to deny almost all of their damage to you. 3.Spirit Visage - I wasn't sure about this item at the start because it's passive is pretty much useless on Ori, but I find it to work really well. The Health Regen and CDR really help.
- Rylais - This item works really good with Ori as you can constantly be slowing Enemies with your Q, not just your W. It allows for great disengage from fights if need be, and the 400 health is pretty nice too.
- Mercury Treads - Since Ori is pretty susceptible to being slowed, these boots along with her W will help her to get away fairly easily from a fight if need be.
- Randuins Omen - I had to think long and hard about the last item, but I finally settled on this one. The reason why I find this item to work, involves a strategy. Picture this: The enemy team is all grouped up and ready to fight, you need to engage, so what are you going to do? What you're going to want do is do the old Ult/flash into the entire enemy team. Afterwards, you're going to want to activate Randuins right away. Slowing everyone that you pulled in. Then when they start attacking you, you shield yourself, and let all of their attacks be slowed by Frozen Heart. Now while all this is going on, you better hope that you're team was smart enough to engage with you and are attacking the enemy from the background. Then when they realize you're actually a tank, and you're not going to die that easily, they turn to focus the other targets, buuuuuuuut it's too late. They're all dead. GG
So as I said before, this is the build I use against a balanced team comp. If the Enemy team is AP heavy, I would suggest building a Banshee's veil instead of Randuins. If they're AD Heavy, then i'd say to try going Sunfire Cape or Deadman's Plate instead of Spirit Visage.
The Masteries I take are 0/18/12
The Runes I take are: Marks of Magic Pen. Seals of Scaling Health Glyphs of Scaling AP Quint's of Scaling AP/Percent Health
