Discussion of Current Items in League
I was reading the new patch notes on Wednesday and was becoming aware of all the new AD items that came out. I was all like "Dang some of these are pretty dope" like how Executioner's Calling came back with an upgraded item so AD champions can give Grievous Wounds again. So I play a couple matches with these cool items, and I was saying to myself "There are so many cool and strong items for AD now that give CDR, I can get 40%-45% (masteries) with only 2 or 3 items!" Then I ended up playing a mage. I said to myself "I want to play this champ with max CDR, lets see what AP items I can get CDR with..." Then I realized the shocking truth. There are only 4 items that a mage can get that gives both AP and CDR: Athene's, Morello's, Will of the Ancients, and Lich Bane, which the latter two are only good for select mages. The only other items that give both AP and CDR are Ardent Censer, Banner of Command, Frost Queen's Claim, Nashor's Tooth, Staff of Flowing Water, and Zeke's Harbinger, which are items you would want on supports, (Nashor's Tooth would be 'select few' category) and get yelled at if a mage picked it up. So recap: AD items with CDR: 5 (fully upgraded) AP items with CDR: 10 (fully upgraded) "But OP, there are still more AP than AD CDR items!" True, but again from my list, there are only 4 which an AP Carry is viable to pick, but even those items are situational. Again, Will and Lich are items that about 5-7 (estimate) AP Carries can viably pick up. Athene's is mostly if you like the crazy Mana regen. Morello's is for the Grievous Wound and the nice boost to Mana regen. Yes, the CDR is also a main reason to pick it up too, but if you want max CDR, you likely need both. However, if you pick up both, you not only get pretty redundant mana regen, but if the enemy team doesn't have good heals, you don't necessarily need the Grievous Wounds (yes it's still nice but mostly to check heals). Not to mention the combined, relatively small 140 AP for 2 items (5350 gold). For AD items, all 5 items give a strong amount of AD, and have very valuable passives which cover many champions and play styles, not to mention the new Essence Reaver, which gives any AD champion 30%+ CDR with just itself and any other item with crit chance. To me, mages or AP Carries should get more chances for CDR than AD champions because they're all about spells. AD still have basic attacks when their skills are on CD, but a mage has nothing. And from a out-of-game perspective, mages should be learning and mastering how to unleash their spells with as little delay as possible.
Maybe AP items will get an overhaul soon as well, I just hope Riot doesn't ignore the AP Carries.
TLDR: Another person just expressing his/her thoughts about the underwhelming AP items compared to the new AD items.
But what do you think? Are there other items that should get a rework? Maybe tank items should get this drastic of a change? Thanks for reading; Discuss :)
