I’ve been playing league for a long time and I’m still horrible

This is a little embarrassing but I’ve been playing league since 2014 and I’m still pretty much the equivalent as a newb. Granted I did take a year and a half break, Ive been back into it now for a long time and I just can’t seem to get good no matter how much I play/practice.

I watch a lot of guides and read boards on tips all of the time and they help a little but it’s still just not clicking.

My main problem is building. I know that it depends on the other teams stats like if the team is mostly AD or AP to build amor or magic resist. But when I do this I feel like I’m just building random stuff and it has no structure or affect.

I mostly play Heimerdinger but I want to be able to play random champs or try new champs and not get obliterated lol.

There’s also a lot of other stuff that I need to fix like what runes I’m supposed to build (I guess that’s how you put it:l) and how to jungle properly (just in case bc I’m super trash at jungle and don’t know how to gank)

I would be really grateful for tips, or in my case a whole crash course lol. Any tips on heim would be appreciated too!! ( I love my bby:))

Well, you do have to build Mr/armor and you don't have to. Someone like Yi/Katarina/Twitch/Annie will build less armor and more health+damaging items.

As for heimerdinger, the too widely spread belief is that you have to use your turrets all the time. You don't, especially early. When you do do that you have a tendency to push the lane, when you push the lane you have a tendency to be ganked, repeat infinitum. Nothing wrong with just last hitting minions, which undoubtedly takes practice but is a vital skill to master to get better and be more effective on the team.

Though the real strength is knowledge. When you know the strengths and weaknesses of every character then you are more likely to win every game. Gain this knowledge by playing every character and watching matches with every character and reading guides on every character.

Like a game of chess the more moves you have memorized the more likely you can counter your opponent.

I'd recommend watching pro or high elo streamers rather than reading guides or tips from boards.

What is your elo though ? some people call themselves newb being plat+ I am not an expert in builds, I use basic logic It would really help, if you show us what you know, hard to advise stuff, if we don't know what knowledge you possess. There are many ways of building: to survive, to scale, to out-trade, to bring utlility. Define your strategy for the game and decide what approach you take.

If you want some practice with building items, you can add me and I can give a crash course.
