As a level 7 Sona main, this drives me nuts. Why does auto-attacking a plant with Power Chord active consume the Power Chord? Auto-attacking a ward does not consume the Power Chord, so why are plants different? I know this is just a minor thing, but I would appreciate if this change was considered.

To add insult to injury, hitting the plant with it doesn't even count as a kill so it isn't automatically returned to you; you have to go pick it up yourself.

We're with you there. Plan is to make plants behave just like wards in terms of which auto attack enhancers they do/don't consume. We've adjusted a number of abilities in 6.23 to address that as a result, with some more coming in 6.24 as well. Not certain which patch Sona's in off the top of the head.
But...but... Hitting a blast cone with Q2 and blasting the unsuspecting ADC with Q3 is awesome...
why are wards different i think wards should also consume powerchord

Yeah, I posted this in bug reports a few days ago. I assume they just forgot about that interaction. Sona's power chord used to proc on wards too. They'll fix it eventually.
Iit's the same with any other empowered AA. Worst of it is Kled, as he has no controll over his W, if clears a plant he it goes on cd and there is nothing he can do to avoid that.

So if you can compenstate for Sona, why not do this for Jungle Kled's W?

I am not positive but I do believe that Power Chord does more damage to the plant than a normal auto correct? If it was someone's intention that they use Power Chord in order to clear a plant faster... say its going to kill your adc, then that would be a very good reason for Power Chord to be consumed. As plants are very similar to minions it only makes sense. Also Power Chord has no effect on a ward while it does affect plants so why would it be consumed by wards.
I assume nasus Q is consumed because nasus has the potential to stack wards, not because nasus Q does more "damage" to wards.

yeah cause auto attacking an enemy is not auto attacking an enemy.
wards are not enemies, they are wards.
