Hey this is a post about Support Velkoz (And Actually Building Support)

If you wanna TLDR the Final Build looks like so item 3092 item 3117 item 3190 item 3107 item 3050 item 3504

Now let me just, stop you before you say "This wont work in high elos" which, no shit it wouldn't. There are plenty of other utility supports that provide utility far better, so this would be redundant past /maybe/ gold. Really though where this shines is the fact that while still providing a decent amount of damage mitigation and utility to your team, you are also dishing out around 2.5k Damage with your full combo.

I've noticed that a lot of off meta supports that strive well in low elos build full damage, and I feel that building full damage eventually becomes redundant. If you have 5 people building full damage against 5 people building full damage, really its just a waiting game for who makes the first move.

However if you build utility, you lower the enemy teams damage by mitigating or reversing it, and simultaneously increase the damage your team does by 1) Keep them alive and B) increasing their attack speed via Ardent.

Now there aren't a lot of mages that could build full utility and still be relevent in regards to damage simply because a lot of them rely so heavily on scaling. The only one that I can't think of relying super heavy on scaling is Brand, due to his % health. The reason I suggest Velkoz is simply due to his true damage passive.

Vel koz's scalings are actually not really that good. Of course a full AP Vel Koz will out damage a Utility Koz, but really, that's just obvious. But with building utility on velkoz you can still stand strong in the ring of damage while doing what you can to help your laner, and the rest of the team survive during hectic situations.

Sure you can keep people alive as Lulu, Janna, Nami and such, but if you're low elo you also have to take into account that in general, EVERYONE'S positioning is signifcantly worse than other ELOs, which means more opportunities to land core skill shot. Vel Koz thrives in an area where people don't know where to stand.

Trick question don't stand anywere keep moving.

But I digress. Is Vel Koz Support a secret OP? No.

Is Vel Koz Support Viable? Conditionally

Is Vel Koz Support a good Sleeper Pick for someone who has a grasp on the mechanics of his kit? Hell fucking yes.

If yall give me some time I can get you the actual numbers on his damage out put and his stats in a bit.

Sightstone?????

SIGHTSTONE ARE FOR PUSSIES no a sightstone is actually a really good idea. Idk why I put arden instead of ruby

Moooose21 votes

Take out ardent for ruby if you're doing this. Ardent is just a horrible item for a champ that has no inherent shields in their kit. You want the extra vision from sighstone.

Idk. You could just go HAM and buy the Rabadon like last Vel support who was still doing 80% of my tank health with one ult. I mean i guess they lost, but it was only because they never took a true objective after multiple aces.

Yeah, seems like with velkoz supp ap is the way to go.

How do you use ardent censer?

With the locket and redemption in theory, I'm really tired and I completely forgot about Ruby Sightstone

I see, is this a theorycraft or have you tried this in ranked?

I stopped playing ranked in April

Why not play Tank instead of medic, though?

MysterQ1 votes

Tank is super expensive. His only peel is one knockup or damage (not counting slows).

SanKakU1 votes

Tank items are a lot cheaper than Deathcap build...and why are you replying to me when I was asking JaaamesBaaaxter?

Ethan Allen1 votes

I'd say take out Zekes for SightStone. You could run stoneborn pact to allow Allies' autos off of your E and Q to proc Censor

No. If you're building velkoz like this, you shouldn't be playing velkoz.

No offense, but your build is just horrible. You're taking a champ with absolutely 0 healing/shielding in their kit, and building them like you would a karma, and investing into shield/healing power which you get effect out of ONLY during your actives.

Ardent censor is just horrible in your build, you're using the passive, which is basically the only reason to build the item, once every 2 minutes when you use either locket or redemption (give or take)

Basically your build is horrible, and if you wanted to play a champion with this style, play karma or lulu or soraka.

I'm not trying to BM by the way. Just saying as a master support player, this build is really bad. If you have any other questions ask them here, or add me on Moooose2. I play only thresh on this account but it's the one I play on most often. Good luck.

I mean I did mention in the original post that lulu does the utility job better, but in lower elos you can't entirely rely on your team to do damage, but doing all damage isnt always the best thing. While it make look like shit on paper, it still does 2k damage that goes through resistances, its a pain to fight in lane, and its fun to play. You could build full AP velkoz as a 'support' but then youre better off just playing him mid lane.

So then play karma who does decent damage and utilizes the stats you're building on her.

I fucking hate karma lol

You're literally playing a shitty version of karma with that build....

implying karma isnt already shitty

So then you're playing a shitty version of a shitty champ. Well done. True OP champ.

I've been playing Vel'koz support for two years with a 55% winrate in season 6 and a 57% winrate in season 7. I tried ardent on Vel sometime before your post was posted and found that it wasn't viable. It got outshone by the efficiency of liandries, ludens, morellos,... That and the fact that you needed to be able to ambush and one-shot carries to win games in the ardent meta.

Recently though, censer is conditionally viable with the nerfs to stopwatch and of the total ap to ap items. You need to go Resolve secondary with Font of Life though. Font of life makes all your cc from Q, E, R and twin shadows heal your allies attacking the cc-ed target. Attacking said target in turn procs ardent onto your ally.

When to do it? A mix of the following:

  • You need the 125-250 gold mana sustain really early in lane to harass the enemy and farm them for gold to reach early power-spikes sooner

  • You need that extra 10% additional cdr really early in lane and don't mind sacrificing early ap (850 gold for 10% cdr vs 900 otherwise). You already get cdr from your supp item and this stacks even more so. You can also get 10% more cdr at level 10 with the Sorcery tree. You will be sacrificing the 5% cdr from the inspiration tree and the additional warding, speed and damage you could be getting from the domination tree

  • Your team also has a strong ap carry and waveclear so you won't be needed to provide ap damage.

  • Your team has 2-3 auto-attack reliant carries that will profit from the censer buff

  • The enemy doesn't have any tanks that you, personally, will have to burn through for you team

  • The enemy team has at least two champions that can take you out easily (Zed, Kayn, Yasuo, Fizz, Talon, Vi, Kha, Irelia, Hecarim,...) and you were going to have to build tanky at some point anyway

Please note that this play-style is a game-plan planned in champ select. This is situational and rarely viable. Sometimes your sole purpose with this build is to bait the enemy team into fights, survive maybe three seconds while cc-ing as many people as possible and applying Font of Life to as many people as possible.

Items that often go with censer in this build: ninja tabi and zz-rot/banner of command into zhonyas hourglass. I'd show you what an ideal team-fight looks like but font of life doesn't even show on replays.

Anyway, hope this helps.
