Why is adc such an underpowered role
Riot says they are trying to balance the game but ADC the role that is supposed to be the source of reliable damage is utterly useless. Can someone please explain that to me?

Juggernaut patch happened.
The biggest hit from that was from Mordekaiser, that shoved out more carries than the top carries ever did.
adcs arent supposed to outdamage everything ever in every scenario
Because in a game where champions have instakill rotations and high mobility, relying on auto-attacks for the majority of your DPS is a weakness... unless they're coupled with on-hit effects and/or said champion has high mobility itself.
Back in season 2 ADC was one of the strongest roles. However, everyone did less damage back then and defensive scaling was much higher. Therefore, champions that could reliably and safely build crit were late game kings.
In short, everyone deals a lot more frontloaded damage, which ADCs cannot compete with until late game. Even then, they have to be careful to not get instagibbed. The ADCs that can peel for themselves will always have a place on pretty much every map. The ones that can't will eventually be phased out unless they're changed.
It's a vicious cycle.
If you want to see ADCs on top again, Riot has to buff defensive scaling and nerf penetration. It may sound counter-productive, but that's what ADCs need in order to be on top. However, I don't think most people want ADCs to be at the top of the food chain. When they are, a lot more champions become unviable picks. This means as a role they are not balanced, especially considering they have always been mandatory in just about any serious 5v5 game.
ADC is the one role present in every single team across every single elo.
You are doing something wrong.
Because game enders are underpowered, I think Einstein is crying.
ADCs are not supposed to be gods if you haven't noticed by now.
Let me explain your conundrum for you...... you suck.
You're welcome. A reliable adc who can position well with good or decent peel will be your highest source of damage in most cases, that's just a fact. If the adc can't position and/or they don't have any peel to keep divers off them then yeah, they just implode and won't do anything, but that doesn't change the fact that if you play correctly the adc is your highest potential damage more often then not.
Notice how every role has received major changes in ever since Season 4's changes to Support.
All roles... except ADC. There's 3 types of builds.
The ones that build Crit or
(
), the ones that build Muramana (
), and the ones that can build whatever in any order and still destroy anything (
)
There's no real diversity in an ADC build. You'll buy
and
EVERY SINGLE GAME. 6th item is the only situational one, with
being pretty big in that spot because how tanky EVERYTHING is nowadays.
I feel we'll have a major item overhaul next year. Some rioters have expressed their dislike for Crit Strike, and if anything... it should just open the door for item diversity, like AP items are right now.
