New Emotes are the Worst Idea Ever, Fire "Tim Teemo"
I'd personally like all the money back I've spent on skins in this game. Riot has fostered the most toxic community in the existence of gaming. It was a big thing that annoyed me when you automated a system of punishments based on player reports. Most of the players that end up reporting you are the very same ones that flame you in chat and make you punch walls in your house over an excruciating 30-40 minutes (like you actually wanted to lose lane, its sad a player isnt allowed to just be leagues better than you, especially with the amount of people that smurf in this game). That aside, the mastery emote is used for nothing more than BM situations. Just days ago I pointed out to a buddy in twitch chat that I could stop a guys back by just pressing my mastery emote, because his rage from it would cause him to attack me, and you can bet your butt he stopped his back and tried to kill me.
However, the part that makes me want my money back, is this "Tim Teemo" guy openly pointing out "We don’t want these to be too tilting. Since the emotes are meant for broad expression, it’s easy to imagine the system fueling rampant BM. Our hope is that emotes encourage more of the fun kind of smack talk, and less of the actually-upsetting chat that can show up sometimes. Still, we’re going to be implementing an ammo system that should detect emote spamming and time out emotes, like the system we currently have for pings. We’re also making sure that you won’t see emotes from anybody that you’ve muted.". It shows they already know the exact problems these things will create. The fact that they are already aware, yet are blindly going to implement them anyway is beyond me. Testing them in PBE is absurd, because the PBE community does not embody the entire toxic community that is in place. PBE is great for testing out how champions work and the feedback from such. But to test out social behaivors on PBE and make a judgement off of that is leagues different than champion mechanics.
I understand you are implementing the mute feature to remove the presence of emotes. But who wants a game where they have to enter the game and /fullmute all ???? Its funny how the majority of games i can't communicate with my adc or a jungler because they openly tell everyone they are muting all to avoid tiling at the beginning of the game. Anyhow I think riot has gone too far. I've paid money and flown to san fransisco to attend group stages for worlds, and I've spent $600+ dollars on skins in a free to play game. I'd very much like my money back, I have bought skins since they were very basic because i believed in supporting a free to play game and keeping it alive. I used to play the original "defence of the ancients" mod on WC3 and Heroes of Newerth, so when i found that a company wanted to make a moba huge, i threw my wallet at it to keep it alive. Now it has evolved into a game that requires therapy or prescription drugs to play.
You say the aim is to reduce toxicity by giving players a way to express themselves without using chat, but all this will do is allow players to express themselves in a negative way quicker than typing in chat. After the play of course, we will still be flamed in chat, because most players tend to flame you while dead, backing, or running to lane ...
If these go through, I'd very much appreciate if riot would allow veteran players to receive some kind of financial compensation in return for the forfeiture of their accounts, whether it be even 10% of money spent or something? maybe buy us a copy of overwatch?
