the thing is, you can be in gold 5, but your MMR is grouping you against silvers for your matches because you simply cant fall out of gold 5 unless your MMR fell into bronze 1, in which case you would fall into silver 1.

this is why players often times stay around 0 LP. because they cant fall out.

they gain like +7 per win, and they lose 15~20LP per loss.

If he was playing against silver players (with silver MMR), it would mean that his MMR is at silver (unless he duo queues). If his MMR ended up in silver range at the end of placement, he would be placed in silver. Winning 8/10 and placing in Bronze 3 most likely means he was low silver/high bronze in Season 5. And I was correct (just checked), Shixxy was bronze in Season 5.

Note: having silver players in your games does not mean you're playing against silvers. Silver V is not much higher than Bronze in terms of MMR. At the same time, it is possible for silver players to have bronze MMR as well. If your opponents are a mix of silver and bronze players, you are playing a bronze MMR game. Lastly, if you duo queue with someone with higher MMR, playing at silver MMR is artificially inflated and does not reflect your true MMR.

The reason why people are getting placed in a tier below their last season placements is because of the soft reset. You start out lower by default and you use your placements to climb up. If you were silver V last season, you won't be hitting silver unless you win all your games (maybe) because your starting MMR will mid-bronze. Having a reset means you will not start off where you left off. So unless you were high silver, you're probably not starting off in silver (concept applies to other tiers as well, with exception of diamond players as Plat 2 is the highest you can place).

Plat is the highest you can place after placements. Diamond+ players are pushed down to plat and displace the majority of plat players who are pushed to low plat or gold, and then high gold is pushed to low gold, low gold to silver, etc, etc. If you're low silver you should generally expect to be somewhere in bronze after placement. If you're mid/high silver, you should expect to be in low silver. I was gold IV and will probably be somewhere between silver I and silver III after placements depending on how I do. If I go 8/10 and don't drop a game until at least 5 games into placements then I may stay in gold, but I'd need a heavy win streak early on to keep the MMR high enough to scrape by at gold V 0LP for season 6.

It happens like that every year. Someone I knew went from Mid Plat all the way to Mid Silver last year. People who dropped really far down didn't deserve to be in the spot they were in and were placed accordingly because they're MMR was so low

Once again. If you get boosted you can. If a bronze player pays a diamond player to play for them, they get to gold 5, then the original player plays for a bit, then stops playing before they get demoted, they'll still have a bronze mmr. So yeah you could be in gold with a bronze mmr. lp doesn't decay anymore in gold.

I sorta tanked my MMR but then went on a win streak at the end so idk where I'll end up. High Plat V atm
