Why does Braum's Ult have an AP ratio?
I can't figure out the logic. It's the only ratio in his kit, and on such a long cooldown. Is there something I'm missing?

because magic hats let you hit the ground harder instead of ad items that increase your strength
Some Ratios are not intended to be used. If you want other instances, Rek'sai Q has an AP ratio, Jinx Chompers have an AP ratio, Leona has plenty of AP ratios all over her kit, etc.
Rioters have said that it's here to enable players' experimentation and exploration, but you are not supposed to build any AP in a standard build for these champs, and these ratios do not count in the power budget either.
Back in the day, with very few exceptions, raising the power of abilities was exclusive to ability power. While that is no longer the case, whenever Riot doesn't was a non-AP champion to have a certain ratio on an ability, the default is ability power.
Sort of like Shen's scalings I suppose, just so something exists. Braum has the bonus of maybe grabbing support items that give AP, but that's insignificant :P
Why not
So there's at least SOMETHING he can build for damage
There's probably people who takes Natural Talent mastery on Braum, where he receives bonus AD & AP through leveling up, and the AP ratio on his ult gives him a teeny "oomph".
Still don't know why is that even important for Riot til now...
