(RESEARCH) Perceptions of Toxic Mechanics in League of Legends
Good evening summoners.
I am looking to conduct minor research on perceptions of toxic and unfair mechanics in league of legends among the playerbase. I am looking to do this for reasons of personal interest, as I am heavily invested in league of legends and appreciate (don't laugh too hard on this one, please) its diverse community. Below is a survey whose questions I have constructed as a subject matter expert in terms of popular complaints regarding game mechanics. Completion of this brief survey is completely voluntary, and you may withdraw from it at any time, for any reason or no reason. Please fill in the blanks below should you wish to participate.
Top 5 Favorite Champions to play as: Top 5 Least Favorite Champions to play against: Favorite lane and role to play: Least Favorite lane and role to play: Your Rank (Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc):
Please respond to the following statements on a scale of 1-5 (1 meaning strongly disagree and 5 meaning strongly agree).
- I dislike playing against champions that can stealth at will.
- If someone wants to regenerate health, they should be forced to buy health potions or sustain items in order to do.
- I find laning against a champion that possesses high amounts of defense or sustain to be boring.
- Items and skills that promote grievous wounds (-40% healing) should be more prevalent within league of legends.
- I enjoy playing as sustain-based champions.
- There are enough options in game to deal with armor stacking opponents.
- Sustain is not mandatory for the core functioning of any champion.
- If a champion is allowed to sustain health, it should be required to make sacrifices to its overall defense or attack damage in order to be able to do so.
- Items that allow a player to sustain should come with serious drawbacks.
- Cleanse is not worth taking as a summoner spell.
- The available ingame items for dealing with stealth help me and my team do it in an efficient manner.
- Barrier and mechanics like it are frustrating to play against.
- Champions who are able to become untargetable are frustrating to play against.
- Mobility creep has changed league of legends for the worst.
- Skills that teleport a unit are frustrating to play against.
- There are currently enough options in game to deal with stealth-based champions.
- I feel that building for armor shred limits my ability to survive extended teamfights against very sturdy opponents.
- If a player wants to mitigate high levels of damage, then they should not be able to do high levels of damage.
- I feel that the champions I dislike playing against have exploitable counter-play.
- I do not enjoy myself against opponents who can sustain through my harass.
- Stacking high amounts of armor and/or magic resistance feels rewarding to me.
- Armor shred items are currently not effective enough.
- There are enough items in the game to help me combat an opponent who relies on regenerating their health pool.
- Champions that have high damage on top of disables are frustrating to play against.
- Champions that scale off of minion kills contribute to the issue of low interaction.
- I feel that manaless champions are examples of poor design.
- I dislike when opponents rush items containing both damage mitigation and health.
- I dislike passive champions that reward low levels of player interaction.
- I believe that League of Legends should revolve more around trading with an opponent than farming creep.
- Building for sustain or tankiness contributes to low levels of interaction.
- Champions that rely on intense levels of movement speed are frustrating to play against.
- Being manaless should entail serious weakness.
- I dislike playing against champions with high base damage.
- Champions that rely on large amounts of burst to 100-0 their opponent are balanced.
Thank you for taking the time to respond to these questions! I will be examining my data through statistical analysis when I have the time to do so.
