Now that serrated dirk is the go to rush item for AD casters and Lethality users...

Can the combine for BF sword be a bit more forgiving as well? Perhaps a pickaxe+sword recipe? When you have to back early as an attack marksman (one that rushes BF sword) and you can't buy a BF sword it feels pretty bad to buy nothing at all because you don't have 1300g, whereas if you have to back early as one of the meta lethality users you can just buy longswords to make up for backing early so that you can come to lane with at least some extra damage. Right now this is hugely in favor of lethality users with serrated dirk not only being cheaper than BF sword but also with it's convenient combine recipe (that was originally designed for assassins/bruisers so they didn't fall behind in games, but now it's catering to lethality marksman in an unhealthy way but now a bunch of ADCs use lethality so imo riot you need to adjust this. Lethality was supposed to be niche on ADC at best and now if you build anything else you get raged at.

Right now as it is, it's already tough for traditional marksman to keep up, but the fact serrated dirk takes a few longswords to create, whereas BF sword needs a flat 1300g feels pretty shitty to the champs that already have a bad early game compared to the lethality lane bullies (yes I remember when it was 1600g but these are different times now though).

Right now Lethality users get a great early game due to cheap item recipes and the power of lethality, a great mid game due to completed said item powerspikes, and I really don't see MF/Jhin/Varus etc suffer much from building lethality late game either - aren't they supposed to pay for this convenience somewhere? Give some power back to the hyper carries that are supposed to have their late game, at least.

bf sword is like that on purpose; part of adc power curving is that its not smooth

Yes, however right now there is a problem with every game being Jhin/MF/Varus/lethality users bot lane.. And the game has changed with the addition of lethality being some adc's main stat now. Lethality items are cheap, easy to combine and very effective for ad casters. Whereas traditional adcs are fighting against lethality early now and the fact that the enemy can easily back with a serrated dirk, or a bunch of long swords compared to the ad who gets bf sword or nothing feels like it could use some adjusting.

on Purpose yes, thou chances are, it's part of the reason why Lethality is being abusive, is because it's much much smoother.

The funny thing about the whole lethality argument, is that no one understands it, or it's simply not there. People with Either argue that Lethality needs to be gutted entirely, or some how ripped from the hands of AD casters (The melee only argument) All without taking a deeper thought about why and how ADC's are abusing it, or why it's abusive in the Hands of ADCs.

I can think of a couple of reasons why ADC are being abusive with Lethality.

  1. as OP mentioned, A smoother build path. Serrated Dirk has a build path while being cheaper than BF Sword, while providing the Lethality and MS of the other items. Also in the Pro scene I've seen more Long sword+3 pot start, simply because an Early dirk is that valued, compared to a Doran's blade start.

  2. Lethality is good against Glass cannons. and guess what they lane against? A glass cannon. And since there really isn't and AD Armor hybrid items, a Glass cannon really can't counterbuild lethality. While the same could be said for Crit or any damage source, Lethality is specialized in destroying glass cannons.

  3. Lethality + LW/BC (or both) has a much smoother power curve than a standard crit build. Simply for the reason above. Classically, you needed a high DPS build to really melt tank, which also meant other glass cannons would insta give as well. (anyone remember 900 damage crits?) So why is the Armor pen build so popular? (whether it's more or less effective?) It's simply the power curve. With a crit build, your not particularly effective against any one target. Also, it's not very effective until all the pieces are in place. (the sum of it's parts are less that the whole) However, You can build Lethality as an early pick up against your lane Opponent, and LW/BC later on when the team fight breaks out. And now your able to counter who you need to, when you need too.
