Is there any reason to play Sejuani over Amumu? If not, can changes be made?

I have asked countless others: is there any reason whatsoever to play Sejuani instead of Amumu? According to many, Amumu's passive is better, along with their abilities being nearly identical and Sejuani's ult having slightly more range (although it's been nerfed like crazy if you miss, and it's debatable that it's harder to land).

So a question to the community (or Riot): is there any good reason to play Sejuani over Amumu?

To Riot (if they happen to see this thread): why are they so similar? Sejuani is significantly more expensive, yet seems to be, to many, the lesser version of Amumu (or merely the same). I love Sejuani's design and playstyle, but I'm a very practical person and it would bother me to know that there's a champion out there that's exactly the same yet slightly better. Is there a way to, perhaps, not make Sejuani better necessarily, but at least make her different?

Thanks for reading, everyone, and I look forward to your responses.

Sejuani has a boar.

Amumu doesn't have a boar.

I think it's clear who's the best champion.

Hell yeah.

This makes me want to figure out what true strengths Sejuani has compared to Amumu, because I simply love Sejuani's design so much. It just feels like she's a clone, but slightly worse in terms of strength and with an awesome boar (which, I have to say, is definitely important; I mean, that boar is pretty awesome).

The issue with Sejuani is that she got super over nerfed due to cinderhulk. The changes need to be taken back at minimum half way to what they were to make her a strong jungler again.

Amumu clears faster, deals more damage, and his ult is basically guaranteed to hit unless you try to get them on the edge of it.

Sejuani's clear got smashed by the %hp nerfs on her W, her ultimate is really easy to miss unless you throw it point blank.

Champion nerfed 3-4 times because of an item, item then nerfed 6 different times, champion left in the toilet. Am I overreacting slightly? Sure I am, but the point remains her play rate is now 2%, and she deals basically no damage in a meta where the dominant champions are tanks that get damage, or have such high damage numbers they can build full tank and rival assassins for damage.

See, I completely agree with you--that's the same reason why I'm upset. That's the reason for my calling to simply make her different instead of merely better than Amumu. It's very frustrating. Thanks for the response!

Sej was the main champion I played in the end of season 4, and part way into season 5. I love the champion, but I just feel so useless when I play her now.

I agree--I haven't bought her yet, but I love her design and abilities; it just feels like it's all for naught. I think I will end up buying her anyway in hopes of some changes, but I suppose we'll see.

Don't get me wrong, she's still playable, just far less impactful than before. Frankly I feel she had more impact back in the end of season 4 when pretty much nobody played her. I might actually play her a bit today and see how she feels right now to refresh my memory.

Let me know how it goes. She might be the next champion I buy.

I screwed up a bit in the early game, but overall it feels like she does no damage at all, her whole use is just as a CC bot in fights, which is fine and all, but it basically means that if you're team isn't already winning, you're going to have a hard time doing anything.

It just doesn't feel like there's a whole lot of reason to play her over say, Zac or Rek'Sai. Both are tanky, both provide more to a team, and also have a much better time ganking and farming.

sej has sticking power and more CC, scales better with health, can initiate from range

amumu has harder CC to dodge and better up-front damage (esp with magic pen)

Thanks for the response.

It just seems like the differences are so minuscule for such a price difference and design difference, and Sejuani has a hard time early game for not much reward late game compared to Amumu. It really feels like they should be a lot different, especially since Amumu is such an old champion, so it almost feels like Sejuani is a clone with a newer design.

Sejuani has unconditional mobility and her ultimate can be used to disengage without putting her at risk... So yea.... on paper her kit is much better than mumu. Just needs some minor adjustments, but she's really fine. Mostly needs mana help.

But does this make her different enough, and do those plus sides add up to the advantages Amumu has?

Dejuan's brings overall more cc to the team, with amumu having relatively little, yes, they fill the same role in game, but the gank paths are completely different as well as sejuani has more pressure on lanes than amumu.

No, there is no point in playing Sejuani over Amumu now.

Back pre-nerf, Sejuani had more consistent and spread-out disabling power with her permafrost lasting up to 3 seconds instead of the 1.5 seconds that it is now...that was alongside her ult being far superior to the current nerfed form. Her clear was bad but it has gotten much worse. As others have said, they gutted her because of Cinderhulk and then nerfed Cinderhulk... she is practically unplayable now.

There is no situation where Sejuani would be better than any of the alternatives.

It really depends on who you want to play. There are probably a bunch of champions that do Pantheon's overall job better. I'll still pick Pantheon.

Play champions you enjoy. I'll pick Pantheon or Gangplank over Darius or Fiora
