ARAM for the casual Gamer. (Again :? )

Afternoon,

Casual gamer reporting. I will start by saying that as a gamer of over 35 years now... well done Riot. LoL is a great creation and a very fun game to play and grow with. It took my two sons 4 years to finally convince me to join in on the fun and I am sure glad I did!

Of all the issues I have with gaming there is one that pushes its agenda to the front every time.Time. Time, time and more time. There is just never enough for all of that pentakill goodness.

As a dad and super busy guy, trying to roll with the mainstay players is simply not going to happen. That said. Enter; ARAM. A short version of the awesome fun that is LoL. From the quick start to exploring characters that I may not have (leading to more purchasing) to the starting level of three with a little extra loot to get you something going quick like. Amazing.

To be honest, PORO King is really my fav in as much as ARAM is great, Poro lets me choose my fav champs and still get a quick round in. I digress. Poro is a different game mode and I am here about ARAM.

So...what is with the extra free rotation champs? I seem to always be getting champs even after multiple rr's that I am unfamiliar with. Where this used to just be a nuisance with all the extra it is getting down right redonkulas.

Look, I am truly a noob when it comes to following all of the newest happenings in LoL. I nary have time fro two rounds of ARAM on a good day never mind trying to keep up with all the changes and what have you.

What I am getting at here would be: Is there not a way to have a permanent game mode that plays the same as ARAM but gives you a choice of champs? I am sure you have obvious reasons that I am just to new to get or have not dug deep enough to find.

It gets really depressing when I only play ARAM and for three days in a row at 2 games a day I never get ONE champ I know. Or I get bombarded with 4 tank teams. To clarify, it is not ARAM I take issue with it is the lack of option that is in the same time scale as ARAM.

I get you guys are trying all these wacky new modes and what not but by and large they are either really gitchy or require a very different style than the traditional; win the lane and kill the nexus. I just want something short and sweet without having to cross my fingers all the time, Seems like I am playing the lotto every time I log on.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

While I can sympathize with you, many ARAM players post here believing in the exact opposite, that every champ should be enabled in ARAM so that it would actually be ARAM.

Agreed. Love ARAM .. so call it "Definitely not ARAM" and do the random with champs owned. Still random. Only down side would be people using truncated champ list which is certainly not conducive to good champ sales.

You say "only down side" but I think we can see some other potential down sides if we look hard enough. :)

"Definitely not ARAM" would favor ARAM only accounts which are a bane of regular ARAM matches. That could and would be considered a con in some eyes. Another potential con would be that Definitely not ARAM gameplay would take some players away from the regular ARAM matches and potentially kill the old ARAM (or the new one) due to lack of players, or maybe even both would join Dominion in the graveyard of game modes.

Also, as LostFrost mentioned, there appears to be a large group of people who would prefer the opposite way of handling ARAM, where the A would stand for Any Champion (AC) instead of Any Champion Available (ACA) and thus open all the champions for all the players of ARAM. [AC]RAM would negate the advantage ARAM only accounts have, but it would also drive some people away from ARAM and potentially the whole game. There are some like you who would prefer A to mean "All The Champions I own" (ACI). However, that kind of game is practically impossible for this simple reason: Imagine 10 players who each have very limited champion pools, lets say they all have only the nine most popular ARAM champions. They get to the same game. How would do you divide the nine champions for the ten players? It would be a bloody mess, I say! :) Even if Riot limited [ACI]RAM to players who have at least n amount of champions (n is greater than 10), it would mean there would be accounts with exactly that number of champions and most such accounts would all be the same and all the games would have the same champions time after time again.

I personally prefer the [ACA]RAM system - ie: the current ARAM - over [AC]RAM and [ACI]RAM - even with my 70+ owned champions, of which many are "no good" in Howling Abyss. Why do I prefer the current ARAM? I think for mostly the same reason you wish to have [ACI]RAM: I don't want to play some champions or I am afraid to try them (my larger champion pool just protects me from getting them too often). It is a weird thing to be afraid of, but I guess it is part of human nature. However, if I get dealt an unfamiliar champion... "Man gotta do what man gotta do." applies to ARAMs too.

tl;dr: above is a long winded confusing speech about why limiting the "All Random" champion pool to even smaller pool would not be a too good idea, and some personal opinions about the other ARAM options.
