Too Much True Damage

Right now, there is a problem in the form of too much true damage. With the latest path, AD is back in strength. However, there is a greater threat in the form of True Damage, which armor and magic resistance do not help against. Many people would likely say that this can easily be dealt with by stacking health, but that is not true. The unfortunate truth is that most True Damage champs are champs who do best with attack speed. So why is this a problem? item 3153 Blade of the Ruined King. A single item that can utterly destroy any hopes of survival. With its passive effect, lifesteal and attack speed, it makes mincemeat of any defense when used by a True Damage dealer like Fiora Fiora, MasterYi Master Yi, or Vayne Vayne. The past couple days have been a nightmare whenever these types of enemies would show up, as they all build BotRK's. This is where the problem comes in. Stacking health to counter True Damage doesn't work against champions like these when they will deal 8% of your health on top of their normal damage per hit. The only way to survive is to somehow burst them down first and/or reduce their attack speed such that they cannot rip you to pieces. But this means you have to completely devote your entire build to countering only one or two members of their team, meaning the rest can destroy you in your weakened state versus their other stats and styles. It is ridiculous to think that a Fiora can 1v5 an entire team starting with their tank just by combining a BotRK with her ultimate; I recently played a Fiora who got slightly ahead in lane and proceeded to 1v5 us under our inhibitor turret with only her ult, a BotRK, a item 3074 Ravenous Hydra, and boots. In another game, it was a Yi with the same items only substituting a Hydra for a item 3930 Sated Devourer.

Long story/rant short, some of my friends are swearing off League because of True Damage being such an overpowering game-changer when combined with a BotRK, etc. There is just no proper defense against it at this time. Does anyone else agree that this is just too much?

is just too much true damage i liked fiora's rework til i was killed in like two seconds from 4000 HP

and i've always hated vayne

Build armor......a majority of Fioras damage is indeed physical damage so if you have 0 armor you are basically asking for 2 instances of true damage. I can see the stack health argument be used if any of the true damage users main damage source was true damage but it isn't and is always physical so you cannot just forgo armor. There are like 4 items with both stats on it and Randuins lowers Fioras E damage by another 10% with its new passive and the active still slows her so there is that.

I did have 250 (Randuin's + FH), the problem is you can't argue with percent health true damage. I actually think it's most of her damage against tanks considering death recap gave me 65% from her passive

fine on yi and fiora. carrying consistenly with them and making use of the true damage is a lot more difficult for them than for vayne.

imo its bork that needs tuning down first though.

Fiora is actually in a more healthy spot, as Botrk doesn't make much of a difference her true damage procs. As far as I've seen, Trinity force makes for more of a difference. New Fiora has the potential to be a bruiser, while still doing a lot of damage.

As for her winning 1v5 against a whole team, I can't imagine that happening unless she was either ignored, or 2-3 items and several levels ahead.

Only ways I can guess that could happen is: Items against her were built wrong, extreme mistakes were made, worst possible champion matchup. The least likely possibility, was that she was a Challenger smurf with ridiculous skills.

Too Much True Damage

Not really. Riot could have easily re-worded %penetrations to be a %of your damage that's true damage.

And Itemizing against defense works optimally vs. physical + auto-attacks through armor items or magic + abilities with most MR items.

Champions have a fairly modular progression from being easy or difficult to itemize against ranging from physical burst, magical sustained damage, free penetrations, mixed damage, %HP damage, true damage, and %HP true damage.

Some champion mechanics just need to be effective for a given champion's imposed risks. Fiora's ultimate's application method is so terrible that's a pretty obvious one.

Also - it's worth considering LoL is a game with solid importance placed on strategic and tactical play.

As a mobile champion you can't rely on dodging point-click skills. As a ranged champion you can't rely on out-ranging your opponent and never getting stuck in melee range. As anyone with stealth you can't rely on being invisible in the face of stealth-detection. As a tank you can't rely on out-tanking your opponents.

So if someone like Vayne can have her mobility dropped to 0 with a root and have her range become meaningless by a single gap-closer, why should a tanky DPS champion always have tankyness work 100% of the time?

Out-tanking opponents isn't some holy strategy that should never be touched, it's just 1 of many.

it's still really lame that 41% of what tanks build is invalidated even though it's undertuned compared to AD anyway (if tanks had a 2.5x hp or resistance multiplier they'd still get killed by ADCs pretty quickly right now, and Fiora wouldn't even care. I'd feel sorry for mages though). it can be argued that they're just counterbuilding, but you counterbuilt first. Now they have a bunch of damage, and you have tissue paper for armor. your option at that point is to avoid being attacked by the ADC, which leaves you right where you started if even the tanks are scared of the ADCs what can even be done here?

All must kneel before the little person with a bow

it isn't always like this (tanks really do have their mid-game moments) but i've been getting a sad feeling lately, where the game feels completely ruled by damage, feeling less strategic, and feeling more "flying monkeys everywhere wow I do so much damage lol quadra kill".

but it's also lame that when tanks are powerful, champions with low sustained damage have no options to kill them.

there is always a place for assassins and burst mages, and that's killing the ADC. tanks shouldn't be, say, diving the backline and killing adcs without caring about anyone's damage. ADCs job is pretty much to kill everyone as long as they aren't killed first. I just don't enjoy the way ADCs like Vayne and Kalista are functioning lately
