ARAM - A Differerent Perspective

TL;DR: Unlocking all champs in ARAM could (depending on implementation) increase the frequency of games where players with limited skill and time to practise new champs get stuck with champs they don't know, stealing the fun from the limited number of games they get to play.

I see posts all the time begging for all champs to be unlocked in ARAM. I am not a high level player so I do not see the same "OP" champs all the time. Even so I see them quite often and can appreciate the frustration that drives regular posts on the topic.

I only play ARAM and rotating game modes. I was unlucky enough today in a single game to draw three champs that I did not know how to play (using both rerolls), and no-one able or willing to trade for them. I apologize to any teammates that I had in that horrific Jace game I played.

While that game was not fun, it is a rare occurence that I get stuck with a champion that I don't know. I had not rerolled for quite a while before that game. The fact that my account is mostly filled with champs that I can play keeps me from having very many games that are that bad.

If all champs are added to ARAM it is my fear that this kind of game would become much more frequent. I understand the argument that if everyone has all champs then in theory you can trade with everyone, but if someone does not own a champ then the odds of them wanting to trade for the champ are not very good.

I have a family and can not play as often as I like, much less often enough to be competent on a large number of champs that would be required if all champs were unlocked in ARAM.

I primarily own tanks and support mages and those are the types of champs that I am happiest playing, and also probably the only champs on which I have a moderate degree of competency. Probably my best ARAM games have come with either Janna or pre-rework Taric. Even champs that are not tanks I have had my best luck playing in ARAM with a tankier focus, although this was a lot easier with the old defensive masteries. Irelia and Jax were my favorite to buy a sheen and then buy nothing but tanky items until finishing a triforce late game.

I guess I would have to wait and see what kind of reroll rules would be applied if all champs were ever unlocked in ARAM before making a judgement. But if ARAM got to were it forced me to regularly play champs that I not only don't enjoy but am not very good at playing, it might drive me from playing league all together.

I am not posting this to cry and say don't change because I'm not very good at as many champs as I would like, but I just want to share another perspective on the ongoing debate.

If you ever see me in an ARAM game, please trade me the tank, for my sake and yours. :)

edited: Added TL;DR and some additional context the recent bad game I had an that it is an infrequent occurrence.

That's certainly one issue with opening up the champ pool. However, isn't it also possible that you roll an unfamiliar champ that you end up liking?
