What does the "Riot Balance team" even do?
I'm low key salty at the moment (just barely tried post QoL Akali nerf) but I've been thinking this for a while.
It seems like every time you guys patch something, you make something horribly overpowered, or terribly under-powered. So why do you do anything at all? Do you do anything at all?
I play a modded version of Super Smash Bros. called Project M, in which 41 characters are overall pretty balanced (balanced in that anybody is competitively viable). People dismiss this as a fantasy for League of Legends because the sheer amount of characters, items, and strategies involved in this game, vs. the one dimensional aspect of a fighting game like Project M. Which I completely respect and acknowledge, but why not just stop churning out champions for a second and actually balance your game? There are champions who are inherently bad, just from their kits, why do they get no love? I don't know your finances but skins make just as much money as champions right? Like the title says, what does the balance team even do? I've been playing since S1 (I'm still bad) but if the balance team wasn't here, I wouldn't notice (things like release TF, could be considered bug fixes).
I just tried out Akali and although still viable in solo Q (perhaps even competitive idk) she feels god awful, it's not even fun anymore. If you build AP you need to wait for her slow auto attack to come out as her R doesn't proc the Q and neither does her E....... Why? I'd imagine because there was a time where she was auto banned in Solo Q.....? But even then, there was considerable counter play (sweeper, or in a better time, oracle).
Diana does, and always has done: the same exact thing as Akali, except now Akali sucks (so that she takes more skill, I think was the balance teams excuse for that nerf), and so does Katarina. Matter of fact, I'd say Katarina has ALWAYS been a better version of Akali, and Katarina has gone virtually untouched... There's literally no reason to pick Akali over Diana now, and if someone from the balance team see's this, and tells me they're looking for an answer to this..... Why not just revert the nerf until you do find a solution.
And then the Azir auto attack range nerf, I believe that nerf dropped his winrate down to around 37% from 45%......... stopping right here would question the validity of the nerf, but lets continue. There is/was a super simple answer to Azir's early lane dominance (have his W's AA range scale with the level of it), but no- the balance team ruined the character for a few weeks (when you could've just reverted the nerfs after the initial nerf was a mistake).
EDIT: I guess I'm just not satisfied with the game/balance anymore, and it sucks because I really used to like this game, and it seems like I'm finally starting to get better with all the time I've invested into League. Don't even care if anybody reads this anymore, this is a goodbye for myself.
Tl;dr: Honest question from a long time frustrated player, what does the balance team even do?
