How can I help my adc friend, who isnt that great at league, as a support?

MavenSong··7 votes·889 views

I main Support, one of the few ( its a dirty job but some has to do it.... wheres Mike Rowe?). I often play with a bunch of my friends and me and one of my friends usually get bot together. She mains adc. She isnt completely new, she just hit 30, but she still makes some big mistakes here and there.

For example today (well yesterday) it was me and her (Leona and MF) against another Leona (who was a cool guy, chatted a bit with em) and a Graves. I stopped under our tower for a moment to type and she goes ahead down lane a bit without me and instantly gets killed by them. Granted, I should have stayed with her, but she ought to have known against 2 all in champs like them she'd need me there to try and stop them.

So, basically I want help. What supports could I maybe play to help her. Ive considered Janna for her peel, but I dont play her at all. Wouldnt mind learning tho. Maybe Blitz? He practically hands the kills to the adc (personally I dont like blitz... not to say I dont like playing him, I just dont like playing him often, I find him cheap).

I've also considered supports that can carry on their own like lux.

Any help, advice is appreciated.

Edit: are people really downvoting a thread asking for simple advice? Lol.

For starters, stop trolling and learn a real support like Thresh or Tahm. If that isn't enough, play champs that can actually carry, like Annie or Morg until your friend has enough experience to hold their own and THEN start adding in real supports as well.

There are other "real supports". I dislike the general consensus that only a select few are "real supports". Yes, they are good and solid, but not aways the most fun for me personally or dont fit my playstyle. No personal grudge or anything, just have bad experences with people keep telling me to "play real supports".

You misunderstand the meaning of my comment, I made it solely based on your match history. There are probably close to 30 or more champs viable in the support role, but Sona is NOT one of them. I would more openly welcome a Kat, Panth or even Yorick in my lane if it meant I didn't have to suffer her on my team.

Pick her and I'll report you for feeding every single time.

Oh really. Sona's not viable.

Can't handle da music lady, eh?

Thats exactly what I ment. I knew you were referring Sona. I disagree. She is a great support. You may not think that, and I respect that, but she is a great support in her own right. A kinda jack of all trades. Poke, heals, shields, speed, and a bit of cc. None of these are outstandingly powerful, but thats because she has almost everything else.

It doesn't matter what I "think," just what's mathematically correct. Yes, everything on her kit is worst-in-class. Meanwhile, countless other supports ALSO do everything she does, but better. In particular: Nami and Bard are identical superior copies of her kit. Then you have Thresh, the "master of all trades." Since he's the master and Nami/Bard are jacks, Sona isn't even good enough to be that much. She's the "failure of all trades."

The sooner you set aside your bias, the sooner you'll realize she's the absolute weakest character in the game. Until then, keep bleating.

I really like supporting with Janna. I actually main ADC, but sometime during last season, when I was once again thinking about why on earth there are supports who play so badly they throw your lane on their own (main supports are rather rare in low elo and it seems to be a really difficult task not to feed in lane xD), I switched to support. And I played Janna only. And she's amazing! Due to her insane peel you can get almost any ADC through laning phase safely, no matter how bad he or she is. No one will kill your ADC as soon as you hit 6...ruining the other jungler's day is something I really enjoy. If your ADC turns out to be a hopeless case, turn your attention to someone else as soon as teamfights start. With the current popularity of AD champions, everyone will love you for your shields. You can also take Janna's more passive playstyle as a tool to teach your friend. Instead of "handing her kills", protect her when she is out of position and explain to her why she would be dead right now if you weren't there. I guess that protecting her and making her see the mistakes she made will be more useful on the long run than just handing her kills and getting her fed.

I am not the best ADC and surely not the best support, being a silver scrub only, but judging on my experience Janna is a great and impactful support and I can really recommend learning her :) Janna

She is a champ ive been meaning to try, ive owned her for a bit just never tried her much. But yah, Janna is one ive considered for her almost unrivaled peel.

Play Tahm and keep her on a short leash. Any time she makes a bad move eat her and run.

Sadly dont own him yet. And his free week just ended xD.

What's with the down votes people? The guy is just asking for help, dang.

You could try Lulu, she has nice slows, nice damage, a shield, a good suppression, a nice move speed boost, a ult that gives health and is a area knock-up and a slow field. Great for saving people or making getaways or chasing down opponents. She only has 1 skillshot, the rest is point and click.

And most importantly she has a great laugh. Have fun on the rift man.

Lulu has been on my "to get" list for a while. I do agree tho, her utility is great, even if laning goes poorly. Might like her a lot.

Secondly, no laugh can compare to the sheer terror of a lux laugh, bwahahaha

Ah yes, those two together with Miss Fortune, so good, best laughs in the game.

bout sums it up id say... maybe jinx too

Lulu is kinda risky to play as a support mainly because her main job is to hand out buffs/debuffs; it is up to her allies to make a use of them.

And normally, less experienced people don't know the basics of "when to go in" and "when to not go in", where if you are going to support as Lulu, her allies have to know these such principles.

Though I can help you if you want to just play Lulu "because she is fun". Hint: you don't play her like Sona btw.

I think you need to worry less about what YOU need to play and focus on helping her get better at the game. When she makes a mistake, explain why it was a mistake. Help her understand that adcs are fragile and need protection, not to wander off alone, and the importance of cs.

Choose your support depending on her playstyle. Is she the type to go ham in lane, or stand and hide in the back and wait for a free kill?

If she likes going ham, backline supports like Raka and Janna are great. They have enough peels to even peel even some of the stupidest ADCs (not saying your friend is stupid, but more as a generalization where Raka and Janna can deal with not-so-experienced players). Since they are fairly fragile and function better when left unfocused, pairing them up with an ADC that "tanks" for them would be great.

If she is the type to hide behind things, then tanks like Leona or Blitz are good starters, as all you need to do is look for an opening, mash a few buttons in a row, and (help) kill shit. Even Alistar is a good one, though he can peel fairly well.

If she is bits of both, Sona and Tahm Kench are good ones. Though they don't have the best all-ins or peels, they have enough base damages (or heals as well, in Sona's case) good enough to "solo carry" in case shit goes wrong.

I wouldn't recommend Nami or Lulu because they NEED smart ADCs to do well.
