Confused about Placement games for ranked

Hi all

Just got out of placement and was placed in bronze 3 after wining 7/10 games. last season i was silver 5 (got it just before season ends) . just wondering how placement works since it seams odd that if the mmr system is aiming to give you a 50% wn rate or there about i was placed 3 divisons lower than last season.
