Autofilled to a role i literally have no champions for??

Okay, I know there are enough posts and complaints about this autofill system to fill several tetrabytes with, but here's something I've been running into.

Supports. While not the only role, they're the most autofilled roles atm. What if you literally have no champions for that role?? You only have 20 champions, but u didn't spend that "meager" 450 ip on soraka, and instead decided to get a scaling mr rune. Is this the player's fault that he's forced to play khazix support?

Some might argue "just get 450 ip and buy a soraka". To someone who doesn't play 15 games per day, ip isn't something that comes in buckets. Should you really blame them if they decide they want to spend it on things they want to buy like runes or save it for champions they want to play? What if they abso-fucking-lutely hate playing soraka? Should they still be forced to buy it and play her for the next 30 min like he's a self-inflicting masochist?

So you go in the game as karthus support, because you had no choice. No one on your team would swap you (can't blame them, that's their choice, not responsibility). Then predictably, your lane gets crushed by the meta, more effective bot lane picks and you lose the game and eat 5 or 6 reports. Is this fair?

I'm open to any thoughts or discussions

Pretty sure theres at least 3 or 4 supports that cost 450 ip. Go buy them. Problem solved.

You know autofill exists. Not having supports to fill the role is ridiculous on your part unless you're just using it as an excuse to try to get someone else to take support for you. Man up and throw some bananas.

Additionally, at low elo you don't even need a real support champion. Play any champion with some cc and/or sustain, build a sight stone and redemption and you're off to the races.

Not sure why that's so hard for you to understand. The whole post was about players shouldn't be forced to pay even "just 450ip" to get things that they would've otherwise gotten something else. It's a simple matter of opportunity cost.

Fair point above that alistar is free if you sign up. To me that's akin to lowblows in mobile apps going "ooh like us on facebook to get this free dlc!".

If they gave me free 450ip, sure then i guess i have no more excuses. But that's not the case is it?

And I have to ask why don't you want to win?

There are supports that fit just about every play style out there, so it's not like you can't find a Support you find fun.

450 is how much extra IP Riot gives you for winning one game on 3 septate days. What makes you think that IP would be treated any differently by you than 450 IP when you first got your account?

I think the problem is you're unwilling to buy a support champion and even give the role a chance. There's always supports on free rotation, there are cheap supports, or there are champions that can be played in multiple roles.

  1. I'm talking about ranked. Obviously. Otherwise I wouldn't mention that I only "own" 20 champs
  2. The whole post was about forcing players to spend ip, no matter how "little" on shit they don't want to buy
  3. I'm not retarded enough to forget brand can be a support. Obviously if I posted this, I don't have such "flex" champs that can go support without being considered a troll

Why would you play ranked without champions for every role?

Sorry, let me rephrase that: Why would you play ranked without a champion for the one role that you're most likely to get filled into?

450 IP is a first win bonus plus maybe two games? I get it. It feels like a lot when you're still scrounging for runes. That's why normals draft exists. it lets you get practice on champions and earn IP so you aren't immediately at a disadvantage when you go into ranked.

Fair argument, but that's easily negated by the fact that if you are not prepared - both champ wise and mentality wise - to play all roles, you shouldn't be playing ranked, or anything that has autofill enabled because you are already warned beforehand that you could end up playing any role and should be prepared to do so when expected.

Due to the way rank works, pretty much everyone is ranked based off of their best role. Since ranked is a game of snowballing the smallest differences, any decent player will snowball the game hard on an autofilled player in ranked.

I entirely agree with your second statement, which is why I think it overthrows the first.

Like you mentioned, someone not as proficient as another who mains the role will get snowballed on. If autofill does not exist, then yes your ranked is represented based off best role - but that does not happen. You won't get your best role all the time because you will get autofilled, and if you are not capable of performing whatever you're autofilled as close to your best role is, you are likely to lose, and your rank will drop. That is why your rank is actually not based off your best role, but all roles overall and thus you should be prepared to play all of them to a degree if you don't want your rank to keep fluctuating and your game to be either snowballing or snowballed.

Forcing players to do so via autofill goes against the basic principles of ranked.

But ranked was autofill to begin with, ever since it first came out, so I fail to see why it goes against the basic principles of ranked, nor what the basic principles are.

At first, we could end up with any role in ranked and needed to be prepared to play any of them. We were given the privilege to have preferences for a short while, yes, but now it's simply back to the way it was while taking our preference into consideration during matchmaking. It has improved overall to reduce role picking conflict, but its nature is still getting us to cover the roles the team needs, so if this isn't the nature of ranked, then I don't know what is.

There is no actual way you have 20 champs, and not one of them is somewhat viable as a support.

Ahri supp. Land the charm.

Singed supp. Land the snare or the slow or just flip them for massive damage.

Kayle supp. She's secondary support anyway. Not optimal, but it'll do until you can make the IP for an actual support that does her job better like soraka.

Ashe support sucks ass, but it is a thing and it can work.

Yasuo theoretically could support, but likelihood is he's getting played elsewhere.

You own Kayle but you don't own any supports? >_>; Dude, Kayle has been used as a support before; she can function in that role.

As for if you should be punished because you don't have any champions for the role and you won't buy one... yes. That's your fault, really. Not riots.

if you get autofill to sup the dodge. If you don't want to dodge and would like to not get reked the whole game get a support champ, it isn't that hard especially since the introduction of hextech. But getting 450 ip is winning one game a day for 3 days. some people just don't have any respect for how good this pick your role system is. Before everyone hopped on the high horse of these two roles will be my roles we had our roles decided by pick order. you wanted mid? Last pick? TOO BAD. called the role first not first pick? TOO BAD almost always last pick was the support player. If you can't play every role to a degree of not losing lane every game or being worthless because the champ isn't suited for that role then don't do ranked.
