2016 Ranked Season Placements

Was there a change in how rankings in placements is calculated? I just finished my placements winning 8 games and losing only 2 and yet I still place in Bronze 5. When I check my MMR using third party websites (op.gg), it shows that my MMR is way higher than the average for my division. I know of other summoners who were ranked in high gold/low plat who finished their placements in low silver. Everyone I've heard from has been placed way below then what they were in the last season(s). Is there even a reason to slave away at trying to play 10 perfect games when you just get a huge slap in the face in the end? Why even have players play the placement games when you can give them the low ranking and not force them to waste their time? I am definitely not the only player that has this problem with how the ranked calculations are made. Please consider a change to this obviously outdated system that hurts veterans who play in consecutive seasons.
