Advice needed: What do you guys focus to on early game, kills or CS?

The Dark Horse in Season Two - ABL Series

Read this article and it got me thinking about my lane strategy.

Would it be better to sit back more and rack up the CS or should I put the pressure on to generate opportunities for kills?

Certainly it would be good to get the early advantage but the chances of getting over extended increase, so it could be better to sit back and focus on racking up the CS.

What do you guys think? Any advice?

CS

gold is king,

14 cs is = 1 kill gold wise...

if you can put your enemy down by 40 cs you have a clear lane domination, gold lead , item lead, and experience/level lead

balance, you do not want to get kills early game unless you know you are going to get them. so do not try to get the kills but if it happens go for it. because cs is better early game, i mean if you can last hit and bully at the same time, you are better then most people.

Good Advice.

not only this... but if you get ahead early and go 4-0 but even in cs then you arent that far ahead , that enemy laner just has to get a shut down once to nearly break even. so being dominate in cs even if even on kills is better due to the fact they arent as rewarded for the shut down

Both. Do what your champ is best at. If its a tanky top laner maybe focus on killing your laner with jungler to get an easy lead. If you are riven or renekton try to run ignite and go for that early fb for lane pressure. If you are nasus then you just farm. It depends on so many factors

I play a Teemo top, and I prioritize CS, however, if I face a melee champ I try to freeze the wave closer to my turret then I try to zone them out and poke when they come forward.

It doesn't always work, but that's due to my misplay, not due to the strategy.

Because of the complexity of this game you won't find a rule that applies all the time.

I played a panth Game a little while ago. Finished 10-1-8. 88 cs in 32 minutes, which by all accounts is horrible.

However, I was getting engaged on often by Riven and their Jungle. So I gave up on the CS in favor of fighting.

Mind you this applies only to low elo, I'm Silver and the Riven was B1 and the Ramus was B4.

If they were both Silver with more games under their belt I would have played the lane differently.

CS, unless your lane opponent is bad or there’s jungle interference you shouldn’t be killing them that early on unless you run some cheesy stuff.

Out CSing your opponent means you’ll have more items than them.

Why choose... the skill in this game is doing both at once

But if you want to climb quickly and efficiently then you should try to set things up so that establishing early leads that you can snowball into victories is the right goal. Early game techniques are easier to practice and improve and ultimately make you more influential to the game as you grab hold of the reigns before things can go bad.

The most important thing for you to realize is that you cannot play lane phase linerally. And what I mean is you need to look at your team comp, their team comp, and then discern your win conditions. Maybe it is just focusing on farm because you are going to outscale, maybe it's abusing their lack of wave clear and roaming, etc. You just need to focus on your team comps strengths and the enemies weaknesses. Also make sure your build path reflects what you want to do.
