There's something really wrong with the mmr system since ranked changes

I was gold five before the changes to ranked in which I got moved up to gold four. Before I moved up I was getting about 22 lp per win and lost 18 per loss, which infers that i had mmr greater than my rank. When I moved up to gold four though, I immediately went to 0 lp and had a warning sign that said I was dangerously close to deranking. I started only getting 13 lp per win and lost 26 per loss, even though op.gg said I had gold four mmr. Even after winning most my games and doing well in them, I was still only getting 13 lp per win. Eventually I went on a two game losing streak and went back down to 0 lp. Then, I played another game, went 17/9/8 with 50% kp as jungle, and got deranked to silver. There's something really wrong with mmr in this new ranked system, at least for people who were division five before the changes. https://i.gyazo.com/f912b479e2c3b38226ae06da7fc5de2a.png https://i.gyazo.com/795c086978ef70c1c667ef569a431fca.png https://i.gyazo.com/9fb5efb4136d09a913cd7ca883478e9d.png

Edit: From many comments, it seems like this deranking is intentional from Riot. Incase anyone from Riot sees this post, I'd just like to say this: Deranking players that have spent hundreds of hours to acquire their current rank is unfair and unappreciative to the player base.

I've been trying to tell people this, there's the same number of ranks, plat 1-4 are the only ones that retain their positions, anything below that will drop on average, the lower you are, the more you'll drop. The most extreme being 4 divisions from bronze 5 to Iron 4.

That said, riots screeching minions/mods/unpaid labor keep downvoting and wailing at me like children claiming it's not true. What it boils down to though, is you need to be a few divisions higher than before to get gold/gold rewards at the end of this season.

Here's the list and where you can expect to land.

As you can see, end of season gold rewards have been raised to requiring the equivalent of the old Gold III. They knew people would eventually figure this out, which is why in their announcement they pre-emptively tried to claim that the skill difference between Gold V and Gold I was almost non-existent outside making one small change in your gameplay.

Challenger Challenger Master Grandmaster Diamond 1 Master Diamond 2 Diamond 1 Diamond 3 Diamond 2 Diamond 4 Diamond 3 Diamond 5 Diamond 4 Platinum 1 Platinum 1 Platinum 2 Platinum 2 Platinum 3 Platinum 3 Platinum 4 Platinum 4 Platinum 5 Gold 1 Gold 1 Gold 2 Gold 2 Gold 3 Gold 3 Gold 4 Gold 4 Silver 1 Gold 5 Silver 2 Silver 1 Silver 3 Silver 2 Silver 4 Silver 3 Bronze 1 Silver 4 Bronze 2 Silver 5 Bronze 3 Bronze 1 Bronze 4 Bronze 2 Iron 1 Bronze 3 Iron 2 Bronze 4 Iron 3 Bronze 5 Iron 4

Since you were Silver 1 you can expect this drop until you hit Silver 3. This likely comes from the feedback Riot values being at high tier, and them constantly going on about the skill gap from Diamond 5 to Diamond 1, but it also means less people with end of season rewards.

Anyone below Plat 4 (pre-change) can expect a rough start to the season as they fall down to where they were, essentially the same division with a different name.

For someone like you on the cusp of gold this is the worst as you were very close and they moved the goal line further away from you.

That's because Old Gold 4 is actually Silver 2 now. See the chart posted above. Riot is basically taking a huge dump on anyone below Plat 4 and stroking the ego of D1 players by giving them master for free

Why do you people even care about this dumb shit? None of these ladders in these games are legit the systems are all screwed up and corrupted and the top 500 spots are always like 50 people and their alts they get there to sell. The fact that they are dropping people like 3 ranks not based on skill should let you in on what every sane person has known for a long time; rank and ratings don't mean anything they are just imaginary values used to create a self worth dependency issue in the players to make them addicted. This shit has ruined gaming.

No kidding. Today I played ranked (I'm Plat 3), got matched with 2 irons and a silver. WHILE IM PLATINUM.

I was in bronze v moved to IV now I get 13 for a win and -22 for a loss that means they want to drop me to Iron even if I win more than I lose.[darius-angry]

i'm not entirely sure that's the way it works, isn't it more just going to be people within bronze v who will get spread across iron?

I figured also this will work like that and it have even more sense to me that after recent patch i was moved from s5 to s4, played one ranked game today as adc and the difference in the difficulty of that game was so high to me that i can feel that im not in the same elo i was before, they game was WAY above my skill level and even though we win and i ended with a personal score of 3 / 6 / 15 which usually i would be rated as -A or A, i was rated as C+ (I think they messed up something with champion rating as well...), I was playing MF. For that very match i got +14 LP only :/ I'm expecting that since I was hard stuck s5 in 2018 I might have to start thinking that I will be placed in Bronze forever since next season and never reach silver again :/ and it won't be easy to change my mindset because in my head bronze is the extreme &$#^&*$ i had to deal with for a very long while in 2016 and people there forget to connect theirs keyboard and mouses before the game, in s5 half of the people at least knows some basics, and because of that I have this bad mentality of where I'm about to be hard stuck anew and it will completely ruin it for me.

I'm actually having a lot of issues with the current ranked season, i've been playing for many many years, and every season I've just gotten to gold 5 then stopped playing ranked, with no real want to push to plat other than in 3v3, since getting plat there was easier. I took the last season off, so I was forced to place in Iron regardless of my games, while that sucks, I don't hate it, just feels bad. But then over my games I realized these were not iron games, they were super hard, and I couldn't just carry myself out of iron. As I looked over the games every team I was fighting was gold or silver 1, which ment I was playing games at the correct mmr placement. After playing for a couple days, I've just found it impossible to leave iron, and its beyond frustrating, not to mention the teams i'm playing with/against are so toxic, since they are all silver/gold they just sit there and insult me for being iron 4, and complaining about why they h ad to have one on their team. Not only is it so demoralizing but it just slowly making me not want to play, and I really love league. Right now the goal is to just tank my mmr until it's at bronze or iron, after losing like 30-50 games, i'm hopping I can just actually play against people at my current rank and start to climb, even if it's 5lp a win.

thats weird because i was silver 2 last season and they say i was unranked last season yet my first game i got silver 2 and climbed to gold 4 and then i got around 30LP per win and when i won my promos i went from gold 4 to gold 2 and skipped gold 3 completely and i apparently had the MMR of plat 3. which i dont know how but yeaa

TheGoldenKim12/10/2018, 5:15:11 PM1 votes

Same thing for me. I won like 17LP, but lost 22lp for losing lol

I just had several Gold 4s, an IRON 2, and PLATINUM 4 and a silver 1 and silver 2 in my solo queue game (i am gold 4). the ENTIRE match was a shit fest with the IRON 2 feeding their ass off and the PLAT 4 hard carrying the game. It went exactly as you would expect based on rank gap.

I don't know what is wrong with the Ranked system now, but it's definitely messed up. I assume Ranked will be off until they unlock Grandmaster and Challenger. Right now on the leaderboard no players are higher than Master tier. I don't understand the point of this, but I think it has affected every tier. I'm Silver 3 and seeing more Iron players than before.

LP Gains and losses are going to rubber band as the MMR system aligns with the new rankings. This occurs in all games that use an MMR or ELO system. Long story short, you have two options play in this volatile environment, or wait for it to stabilize. Throw in the fact it's "pre-season" and players are casually playing ranked now more than ever, and boom you have this perfect storm

BuggySkillz1/7/2019, 8:15:36 PM

This is the same for me and it’s so annoying. I just came back to the game after a long time away and managed to FINALLY climb my way out of bronze. My win rate has also been really good so I thought I could push to high silver in the preseason and try for gold next season. Then the changes came in and my lp gain went from 23-24 to 12. I somehow still managed to get promoted to silver 3 but 1 bad game and I’m straight back down. Now it seems it’ll be like this into the next season and I might be back in bronze again??? What’s the point in even playing if my work getting out of bronze is immediately going to be useless?

I get the that I should be placed lower given the changes and my mmr would need to catch up but it’s so horribly demotivating that despite even proving I was capable of having this rank by moving up a division I’m still gaining such little lp. This change is not fair on those in high silver going for gold or those in low silver escaping bronze.
